Don’t get too creative because bass is funny it may cancel out in your listening position. Put the sub in the LP and play some music you like. Walk around the room and see where it sounds best and that’s where it “should” go for starters. Or try nearfield, behind or next to the sofa. Good luck lol

Please tell me that is a theater room and not your living room

wish I could.
When we built the dedicated HT room and man cave topics came up. I was good without in the name of a better house layout as long as everyone knew what was going to happen in the living room for the HT. Been married 17 years so she was well aware. I did my part to make it functional so she could make it non-frat. A dedicated HT room would sit unused a lot...and I have man outpost vs a man cave
Took 4 years but finally installed last week so a work in progress. Will get a motorized screen that will tuck away hidden up top. Speakers need to come back out for paint...when I’m not living on the sofa from surgery.

If you already are using the Onkyo controller app I would buy another networkable Onkyo AVR. The two units will work together in the app.
Plus the 2019 models are coming out so the have marked down the 2018 models ridiculously. I put a TX-RZ630 in my house 2 months ago and am in the process of swapping it out to a RZ830 for $50 less than a paid for the 630.
It will be cheaper and have more features and power than using a Sonos amp.

I haven’t looked at receivers in a long time but I agree that sounds like a good solution. I have a bunch of sonos zones so I tend to gravitate to that in my thinking.
The advancement of receivers and there capabilities over the years is great!
That Onkyo has a powered zone 2 and 3? With just looking at the back it seems so. If so that would cover your 6 speakers easy. I just don’t know how it functions via the app and running 3 zones as one and linking to your other one.

If the guy has a AVR with a powered Zone 2, why could he not just use a ohm matching speaker selector wired to Zone 2? Wire a pair of speakers together resulting in 3 pairs of speakers back to the selector.
Power would be much lower, but if it’s just used for fill I don’t know if it’ll be an issue.

Looked a little more it has a powered zone 2 and 3.
If you can amp assign to those zones and get the 90ish watts to them like the main zone, there should be no need for anything else.
My oollllld onkyo had a powered zone 2 but it was a small dedicated 25w amp and you could not change up.
Im assuming these newer ones allow you to utalize the unused amps that would be for the surround sound channels for even power delivery. Also assuming that it would allow, from the app, easy/grouped manipulation of main, zone 2, and zone 3.
Also for information only it is certified 4ohm stable so if you wanted to get tricky with the wiring and ohm load.

I need to get on your level! But that would require new construction or a complete gut job. Unfortunately, my den/living room is more narrow than yours and where ideally I would do something like your setup, is the front window of the house. I guess I could do a fake wall in front of it...
Posted on 4/23/19 at 10:14 am to Neauxla
Fake wall would allow you to have all of your equipment hidden behind it and you can build subs into said wall....but I’d assume a fake wall coving the main front window would have a very low WAF score
When we were working on house plans this was all built into the plan. I 86ed the fireplace that every builder want to put in a den/living room. Big blank wall with a few runs of conduit (exterior wall and second floor above). Dedicated 20amp circuit on that wall, one under the sofa, 2 in my equipment closet under the stairs. Was not sure where amps would need to go. The plate amp I run the 18s on is 4k @ 4ohms but I have the subs wired down to show about 1.3ohm so I’d guess 5kish? Only thing plugged into the same circuit are the table lamps that are LED and it sucks the life out of them
Told the wife too I reserve the right to add more subs. Not for volume...but to smooth out the frequency response. If the main LP has some nulls (it does) only option other than moving the subs is to add in another spot in the room that helps that frequency. That’s where those extra jbl 12s may come into play. I can put a row of them on top the unit in shallow boxes if need be. Put them in one of the lower cabinets with a screen door vs a wood one. That one to the far right Might be a good candidate. I loved the look on the wife’s face when I told her that.
Once I have time to fool with and learn it I’ll use R.E.W. With a mini dsp mic and use a mini-dsp-hd to adjust the PEQs, filters, and all it has to offer.

quote:I mean right now there's a 75" tv in front of the window with a wall of curtains behind the TV, so in my mind it wont look that much different. The house is symetrical with 2 front windows on either side of front door. If I put fancy blinds or curtains that match on both windows and then hide the window in the den/living room, you will never know from outside and you probably wont even realize there SHOULD be a window when you get inside. That's my thoughts anyway

Show the misses how “pretty” it can look....then hatch your master plan
For reference that’s a 120” screen
Fun gif I made the first day I hooked them up untuned. It shakes the sofa so good, you get that tingle feeling when it stops all of a sudden. I used to run bass shakers on the sofa to mimic that...not no mo.
While I’m laying here...the surrounds and the back surrounds. Not optimal but what I had to work with.

What is your front speakers?
Posted on 4/23/19 at 10:41 am to NOLAGT
also, can you give me your carpenter's contact info for the cabinet?
Posted on 4/23/19 at 11:05 am to AlxTgr
I don’t charge...I don’t do either lol. Barely have time to read and learn to do my own. There’s still a lot over my head. I read AVS and have been tinkering with subs since 7th grade when I took out the 10’s from my Sony system and dropped in some glossy black OG Rockford Fosgate “the punch” 8ohm car subs. Made my lights dim in my bedroom back then
All the speakers are definitive technology fronts are UIW-RLS II and the rears are the RSS II. Can be found online for ½ msrp.
Cabinet was built by Cajun Wood in Lafayette they did a excellent job. They also built my fish tank stand/canopy (375gallons) and they will tackle the sub bench seat. I’m putting them outside of there comfort zone. I can’t wait to see there face when I let them hear it. Someone like me gets real specific on how things need to line up and fit for my end game...and that’s not your typical end game.
Edit: my inspiration pics I came across over the years of what I wanted to do.

Lol figured that was throwing you off. NOLAGT has been my online persona for over a decade. From Nola (best bank)...did a stint in laffy for USL then back to Nola until that bitch Katrina.
They are just a cabinet company that I came across in the last house we built. A competent and willing cabinet company can build it with input. This unit was 7 pieces they assembled on site. About 20’x10’

Those are all other things to consider. That’s why I like sonos stuff...I use my phone to control it all from anywhere.
Depending on what kind of receiver he gets it's an option with a wired receiver as well. Denon app works pretty well for that.

I never even thought to look for a app for mine I have a x5200 I’ll have to check it out.
SOB there it is I use my harmony remote and have the IR emitter rig to use my standard remote. So never thought to even look into it. This thread has provided
