Well that’s just not true at all. That’s not how any of that works.

I don’t think that makes the point you were intending to make

Duane Holmes scored yesterday.

Did you miss the part where all of the players talked about how great of a job he did creating a cohesive locker room? They call it a family because the environment has been fostered that way, and you can tell that they mean it. The togetherness you see is absolutely not a given just because a few of the guys played on the same youth team together. The cliques that were a problem during the Jurgen days don’t exist.
Just say you hate Gregg and you won’t give him credit (for the good from his tenure) no matter what he does. More than half the board thinks similarly so you’ll be in good company.

I judge the coach by results.
After the debacle of missing the prior world cup, Gregg did an adequate or average job in the team's results and progress at this past world cup. I don't think the team over or under performed their talent by a significant amount.
Whether some other coach would have done better, worse, or similarly is up to debate, of course. Whether we could have hired a coach for this cycle who would do better than Gregg is also unknown.
I am not either extremely excited nor extremely disappointed by Gregg being retained. I will again judge him by the team's results.

Did you miss the part where I said with or without?

You know what would be great? How about posting the US national team shite in a thread intended for the US national team. I come here to see who did what abroad and all I'm getting is Gregg garbage

I think he underperformed in the qualifiers considering the talent we had. How many away games did we win?

Congrats on posting the most measured take on GGG this board has ever seen

29 reported recently and ESPN is now reporting that GGG has yet to meet with Gio to rectify the tension between them.
Posted on 8/29/23 at 5:51 pm to NewbombII
Gregg needs to stop doing these exclusive interviews. There is no reason to keep bringing the Gio drama up, but he is actively seeking the attention out.
It’s so dumb.
Posted on 8/29/23 at 5:56 pm to Broski
Crocker promised Gio it would be resolved. If GGG's ego won't let him do it Crocker needs to can him.

I don’t think a call does anything. This is one of those things that needs to be done in person.
It’s going to work itself out because Gio needs the USMNT just as much as the USMNT needs Gio. Gregg is going to continuing calling up Gio because it’s his best chance at winning, Gio is going to continue accepting USMNT call ups because he is in no position to big dick the federation.
They don’t have to like each other to still get along.
Gregg needs to stop doing press tours though.

As the story goes Hudson and GGG were supposed to meet up in Germany and Hudson was to facilitate a sit down. GGG flaked the out and didn't go.

I heard that both wanted no part of it.
Again, there’s a fundamental issue that won’t allow a true reconciliation to ever happen. Both sides aired the others dirty laundry publicly with one side being egregiously more sinister than the other.
Gregg should’ve never been rehired, but he was Crocker’s fifth choice, so here we are. The Reynas and Berhalters will never be friends again and that’s really sad. But Gregg will coach Gio and Gio will play on a team that Gregg is coaching… because they have to. It’s really not that big of a deal anymore.
I also think it’s funny that people think Gregg owes Pepi an apology, when all that happened was that a 19 year old in the biggest slump of his young career didn’t get invited to the World Cup. If that requires an apology, we are fricked as a society.

Gregg said so in a Vanity Fair article.
I just read the article and came straight here. Holy shite he hasn't advanced anything since getting the job. We're literally in the same situation we were in when the story broke. The interview was just full of excuses on why he hasn't reached out yet.
Posted on 8/29/23 at 7:35 pm to BCLA
I don’t think it was full of excuses. Like he didn’t say why he hasn’t done it… just that he hasn’t done it.
That’s actually stupider than giving excuses, because you are literally telling everyone that nothing has changed, but still refreshing everyone’s memory that it happened.
People are wild though if they think a phone call magically makes everything better.

If Gregg was Crocker’s fifth choice, who were 1-4?
Agreed about Pepi. I don’t think any reasonable person thinks Pepi is owed an apology, and I think Pepi is fine with things now since he’s playing well and doesn’t come across as a dramatic guy.
Not sure where Gregg stands with Steffen or Brooks though.
Miazga is a dramatic weirdo, and not a particularly good player, so I don’t really care what happens there.
I think everyone else is fine, unless I’m missing someone relatively under the radar.

Roberto Martínez was #1, there was communication with Jose as well among other euro names before crawling back to Gregg

I think, like Pepi, Gregg cut them based on nothing more than he thought we had better options. Brooks was trash in his last two appearances before he stopped getting called up, and that coincided with him getting no playing time at the club level. Even now, I think we have at lease 5 or 6 better CB options than Brooks right now.
As for Steffen, I think his omission was so Turner would not be looking over his shoulder coming into Qatar, which I think played a part in how well Turner played there. If I had to guess, Steffen will get some call ups in the future.
Miazga has always come off as a petulant child, so I put no stock at all in his opinions on anything USMNT related.
