Don't we usually have a bunch of white knights in here defending the women when these threads happen?

I'm like someone who posted earlier... I can only force myself to watch if its the Olympics or WC. Even then, I'm doing so only out of sheer patriotic duty.

I started listening to the Total Soccer (or Football maybe, can't remember) show right after we lost to T&T because they had some interesting podcasts on the next steps. They had one where if they could do 10 things to make US Soccer better, what would those things be. The two guys both listed as their top one that they would pay the women equally. They didn't even elaborate, they just both agreed that it was an obvious thing to do. Yeah, that's how you fix the national team. You start off by throwing a bunch of money at something that has no impact on the men's team.

I believe that's what Kyle Martino is wanting to do as well should he become the president.

I honestly don't care. If the money is there to do it, then that's fine. But if it's going to take away resources away from something else that isn't associated with the women's side of things then I'd be against it.

Yeah. I'd rather give that money to youth development. Especially when U-17 men's teams can beat grown women all around the world.

Exactly. It's not like this money is just sitting there, and Gulati is hording it to be an a-hole. If you give more money to the women's team because you think it's just the right thing to do, it's taking money away from some form of investment in the men's team.

Also we could use that money for women's youth teams. The women's team has fallen behind Europe because the Europeans have professional teams associated with their clubs, while we keep trying to form a league independent of the MLS. The payment issue will mean nothing if the women's team doesn't sustain its level of success.

It's horrible, same with Womens ice hockey, just unwatchable.

But, Womens volleyball, softball are top caliber play. Basketball is also quality.

I flipped over to womens ice hockey once, and it was Canada vs China. Canadien women had over 90 shots. For fricks sake.

And it's only USA and Canada, rest are garbage, so it's boring and lame.

I used to think like u guys do, then I had a daughter, and while watching her play those thoughts never entered my mind once, not for her or any girl on the field. It carried over into watching women's sports and allowed me to turn of the part of my brain that compared their skills and athletic abilities to men. Appreciate it for what it is, and you'll enjoy life more.

Now let the downvotes commence.

I’m not going to downvote you for having a rational opinion.

Women sports are great and all, but they will never have the appeal that their counterparts in the same sport do.

When I was in the media I covered a local girls high school soccer team win state. Couldn’t give a shite about women’s soccer on the pro level, but it was fun to follow them.

I honestly never had a problem with our women’s team until they all started acting like a bunch of retards over the last couple of years.

Thanks for the level headedness. One thing I didn't add is that I think that the best women's sports are "feminine" to a degree and unique. Examples are women's gymnastics which is both athletically amazing and gracefully beautiful, and have events like uneven bars and beam that men don't compete in. Figure skating, while certainly similar for men and women, looks so much better with women performing routines than guys. the sports that are the most athletically rooted (vs. skill) are the hardest to watch, so basketball is the one that looks so bad by comparison. I've never watched football or hockey and I'd imagine they would be similar. Soccer has a healthy mix of both athletic ability and skill so it is very entertaining to me...same with tennis and volleyball.

I'm just talking about women's soccer compared other team sports like women's basketball, hockey etc...

probably not true... Pretty sure the USA men are funded on par with everyone else in the world. Our women are probably the best funded in the world by far

The top HS boys team in the country would name their score against any women's national team.

A mediocre HS team probably wins it all too. Go read some of the stories of these womens national teams scrimmaging the U15/U16 boys club teams in their areas. They get beat every time, and those are 14 and 15 year old kids.
