They just showed a stat that we had 4 touches in the 18 box to Ghana's 2 while Altidore was in and then after he went down we had 4 to their 20.
While I'm not dismissing the fact that Altidore's injury will hurt us, that stat is so flawed. Their touches were a direct reflection of our tactics of "parking the bus" not an indication of Altidore's impact. Wish we had a reliable media source for soccer on TV

Since soccer doesn't lend itself well to stats like football, baseball, and basketball, ESPN is pulling the most farfetched crap out of their arse they can think of to fill airtime.

As for the stat, it's ridiculous for one, because he got hurt so early. Second, we came out pretty damn aggressive, leading to the 4 early touches. Would have liked to seen us be more aggressive once Ghana started getting so comfortable in our box, but hey, we have no say in that. Plus we couldn't keep possession to save our lives. That alone would have probably changed that stat.

And that's my point. It is no reflection of Altidore that Ghana got all those touches in our box.
We got away with that game against Ghana but we will not be able to do that against Portugal, Germany or any other team in the competition. Not only was it awful to watch, we should have lost that game.

ESPN has done a pretty phenomenal job of covering the WC. It's probably their best covered event.
Yes we didn't get a lot of touches in Ghana's bus bc we were laying defensive on purpose, but losing Jozy in game was just as much a factor if not more

this was on Sportscenter not the actual coverage. I agree they have done a pretty god job but your average Joe is more likely to see the SC recap and will be misinformed.

Sure it is.
We had no outlet to play the ball up to you so we were trying to pass our way out of trouble and we failed miserably at it. Those turnovers on our end gave Ghana possession in dangerous areas and led to more touches in our 18.
Had Altidore still been in we could have played more long balls and let him hold up play which would would have given us more possession in dangerous areas and led to fewer give aways in bad positions.
We didn't "park the bus" we just couldn't pass the ball to save our lives.
But carry on with the ESPN bashing since it's the cool thing to do.

that stat honestly seems pretty reasonable and telling to me. im not suggesting we read too much into it, but it makes sense and certainly fits into what many of us have thought/known about losing altidore. dont see the issue.

Then am I the only one who thinks that it doesn't happen to every keeper? I mean I'm sure in the entire litany of saves a keeper makes in their lifetime on the playground, in training, in scrimmages, and in competitive games it's happened, but to me it just sounded like he was saying that it happens a lot which I don't agree with.
