World Cup question on Julian Green

How much should we expect out of this kid after he essentially took Landon Donovan's spot on our final 23. All I know is he has only played a few minutes vs Mexico and hasn't played any for Bayern Munich.
What can he give us with his youth that Donovan couldn't give us with his experience and scoring ability. Hopefully Klinsman's decision pays off

Julian and Landon have the same amount of first-team league goals this calendar year... 0.
Chris Wondolowski has 5 goals in 9 games this season. Brad Davis has 5 assists in 8. Both have been playing better than Landon, as well.

I know Klinsman has a lot of European/Americans but are they going to make a big difference?

Guys like Timmy Chandler, Fabian Johnson and maybe Aron Johannsson will make an impact at this World Cup. Players are talking like Julian Green will be the surprise X-factor.

Jurgan isn't in a good spot. If we get eliminated from the group stage people will say "well he should have brought in Donovan instead of some guys with no WC experience." If he brought in Donovan, we get eliminated, and Donovan played flat people will say "well he shouldn't have brought in Donovan he's been in bad form this year."

I don't think a group stage elimination would have fallen on Donovan's shoulders. A group stage elimination based on goal differential or the inexperience of Green will most definitely based in part on Donovan's absence.
The only way I could imagine LD being blamed for the USMNT's ouster would be him scoring two own goals in two different matches.

Disagree with the latter statement. You ride your horse into battle. We would be disappointed with the result, but everyone knows we have the stupidest group ever.

If we miss a penalty, then that could be faulted for not bringing Donovan. He is perfect from the spot. Dempsey is mediocre.

I do agree with getting someone else to take a PK. I say a 50% chance we will have to take a pk. Maybe get Jozy to take them?

I'm not expecting anything from Green this World Cup. He might be a tourist for all we know. Any positive contribution from him would be awesome though. I'm excited about what he could bring in the future but this is one hell of a competition jump from the accountants from Hamburg he played against during the season :obvious exaggeration:

He won't play a minute this World Cup unless the US is eliminated (or clinched first) going into the last game.

I disagree. He's shown really well in camp and I think he has a chance to contribute. Pay attention in the friendlies. I think he's going to surprise some people.

I looked up his career penalty make percentage once and it was like 90% overall and I think 100% for the USMNT. The average spot kick taker is like 80%. I think Dempsey is like 2/3 from the spot and one of them was the keeper's fault.

Unrelated, but I think that Diego Alves had a penalty save percentage pushing 70% at one point
