I think it's all about time. MLS simply hasn't been around that long. It seems that only people that live in an MLS city are fans. Most of the stadiums fill up though, so it seems to be doing well.

I don't know how to improve it. I just find it odd that they try so often to compete with bigger sports right now. Like I want to watch and support the league, but there is usually another sporting event on that I would rather watch.

I definitely wish they would sync up the schedule. Having 4 game days each week absolutely sucks. It's really hard to plan around, especially when it isn't a priority at all. As a Spurs fan, I know to leave my early Sunday mornings open, and every once in a while it's a Saturday morning. I love the consistency.

Shouldn't be surprised.
Once every four years event beats out a playoff series no one really cares about (NHL) and a playoff series between two middle of the road markets (Cleveland and Oakland) that just happen to be going on at the exact same time.
Here's the real honest answer:
Put the World Cup on during the NFL playoffs (Qatar) and see who gets better ratings.

I don't really understand why so many see this as a threat to the men's game or the NFL. Many seem to have their panties up in a wad...making excuses for why the women's game had great ratings.

MLS has done a ton to get more exposure and TV time this year. They're pushing the league more than ever before and their numbers continue to rise. I don't see why they're the whipping doll...

Apparently, Sepp Blatter and his cronies are, because why the hell would you put the World Cup in a country whose temperatures are so unbearably hot that the only time you can hold the tournament is in the winter months?
Oh...and here's another thing the retards at FIFA didn't think of...RAMADAN...or maybe they did, as it's in April-May in 2022, as opposed to June-July.

The World Cup is in Qatar because of $$$$$$$$$$, not because FIFA is worried about competing with the NFL in one out of the 200+ countries who will be tuning in.
The fact it is in Qatar, and even more so, in the winter shows how little FIFA cares about the people interested in watching it.
