Is there no way to do this without effecting the spin or movement of the ball? It seems like for a game as huge as the Euro or WC final you'd have the field all purty like this....

And even if you couldn't paint the actual field why not paint the sidelines in the team colors, fonts, and logos?

You don't "need" them on high school, college, professional football/basketball fields/courts either but they look way better.

I prefer the simple nothingness.

Probably the same reason that most soccer teams don't have mascots, its part of the culture.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were some FIFA restrictions on field markings.

If that was allowed, next thing they would allow is Aerosmith at halftime, fireworks...

I've often thought about this as well; I like the idea of a team's shield in the center. I think it would look cool but I also understand the purist reaction to it.

Yeah I've struggled to come up with an argument against this thread but I just don't like the idea. I like they giant green field in HD on my tv. I don't want paint and logos all over it.

It's a simple sport and that's part of what makes it do great. No need to make things look over complicated and flashy

Indeed, there are. Notice that in Spain and other countries they have advertising on either side of the goals? These are canvas, or whatever banner material. Notice, too, they're in touch, and not on the field of play like an end-zone or midfield.

quote:

Any kind of publicity is forbidden in connection with, or on, the field of play. In particular, no advertising material may be displayed at any level on nets, corner flags or goalposts, nor shall such appurtenances of the game have any extraneous equipment attached to them (cameras, microphones, etc.) The reproduction of a FIFA, Confederation, National Association, League, Club or any other logo on the field of play (turf) is also forbidden.

I want fireworks! Teams jetpacking in for matches! Seriously, though, I'm in the camp against it. I just really enjoy that there isn't some bullshite on the ground impeding my view of the ball to sell fried chicken. I'm also glad that the Premier League is sponsored by Barclays so at least it sounds decent. I could see America's league being called the Autozone & Pepsi Ford Championship League of Soccer Players, or the APFCLSP. You just can't Americans freedom. It's similar to Mexico with sponsors on shirts. How many sponsors can a club fit? It's like the Nascar of kits.

The only thing teams would put are their crest. I would assume with most being fairly elaborate, the detail work would be tough and even tougher to repair after matches. It's unnecessary to have them. It wouldn't piss me off if they did allow them.

I would imagine that being able to discern foot/legs/ball/shite on the field from a distance in a tackle would be far more challenging for a referee.

This would probably lead Howard Webb to give ManU AT LEAST 3 more penalties per game.

They do, don't they violate other rules or change them, as well? Technically, are they even part of FIFA? Does USSF have any jurisdiction over NCAA?

I'm pretty sure the NCAA does not call under the umbrella of FIFA. They have their own seperate rules.

It's considered amateur and not professional so I would assume FIFA has no say
