To be fair, there were plenty of people who fit this

quote:

They never even tried any other sport.

and this

quote:

potheads

As far as

quote:

good enough to play football or baseball

If you were dealing with any reasonable level of youth soccer, there were very few players who would be described as the quintessential American athlete, but there were also very few members of the uncoordinated, unwashed masses.

Also, the poor coverage it gets on ESPN/SportsCenter doesn't help. The anchors don't know shite about soccer for the most part. Watching right now and before their clip about Mexico the anchor said that the manager selected on people based in Brasil.

Wow no wonder why other countries don't respect American soccer. Oh well Mexico might be better off calling up Brazilian players at this point.

One of the reasons is evident in this thread.

Arrogant soccer fans who think everyone who doesn't love soccer is obviously ignorant.

I've been called a grass fairy enough times in my life to not have much respect for someone who criticizes a sport they don't even take the time to appreciate or understand.

I accidentally clicked on this board and landed on this thread. A lot of smart, open minded people try to watch soccer but are bored by it.

That's fair enough, but on this site the soccer hate doesn't really originate from the open minded sect of people. The very existence of the SB is predicated on that fact, since no one wanted us to post on the MSB.

The only people really casting stones are the soccer haters, in real life and on the Internet. At least in my experience.

There are legitimate reasons to not want to watch the sport. Hell all you have to say is you don't like the sport. But the common reasons people have to dislike the game seem to indicate a lack of real exposure with the game, at least in my experience. When people say the sport is communist, which has often been said on this site, how can they be anything other than ignorant? That opinion is not based on fact, seeing as capitalism and free trade are the reasons that the sport grew as it did. Fans of the sport can do a better job of being less reactionary, but I feel a great majority of the supposed arrogance is merely reactionary. Granted I'm only speaking about the Internet.

I'll try to find an article from this past summer that collected all the angry tweets ESPN got from people because of their broadcast of the Confederations Cup.

Some people just freak out and get mad when they see soccer on their TV, and it's because they were just bred to hate the sport.

The average dumbass American fears what he does not understand, hates change and things foreign to him.

Soccer essentially represents all of that wrapped up into a 90+ minutes package with very little commercial interruptions ...

And this scares the shite out of that average American and he does the only thing he knows to do ... he lashes out against it in the most negative connotations to bring it down.

My father is one of these people that says he hates soccer and for all the reasons that have been listed but as far as I know never watched the game. I have attempted to get him to watch a Liverpool or USMNT match with me but he just refuses to give any attempt to watch, instead he gets on his computer and ignores the game.

I feel like the rest of America is the same way. It has been beaten in a lot of us that soccer is wrong and if you like it you are un-American which is just not the case.

It always seems like the real soccer haters are huge baseball fans. For them, they hate it for the same reason that they love baseball...they learned to at an early age.

I agree with this too.

Plus Baseball is for heterosexual 'Murican man-whores that have slain millions of wimmens and been in so many vaginas that their packages are literally about to rot from over exposure to pussy juices ...

While Soccer is for communist loving Nazi fairy boys that have sucked so many cocks and had so much dick in the butt that they have created a totally new form of aids with their fecal & semen filled cesspool they call their bodies.

In all fairness, Americans obsess over "the best" and "the GOAT" and these guys are considered the top players.

I was joking about the perception many have of Baseball compared to Soccer ... especially in the South.

TL;DR version:

Baseball = All things American
Soccer = All things Anti-American

IDK. Soccer gets picked on on the MSB quite a bit by the hardcore football crowd who feel the need to post "OMG I clicked the soccer board, am I gay?!". Lot of baseball hate over there too.

Personally, I'm baseball 1A and soccer 1B. Basketball doesn't do much for me and football is fun but I'm not a huge die-hard fan. Most of my friends are huge baseball fans and like soccer as well.

I don't consider baseball a sport. It's a game.

Soccer and baseball are my two favorite sports, for vastly different reasons. Soccer for the reasons stated here previously - 90+ minutes, no commercial, non-stop action - baseball because there is no time limit, it could go on and on and on, but there is a definite ebb and flow of a baseball game. I do agree with the general sentiment that most people do not like soccer because it is not an "American" sport. Seems like everyone sure does get excited when World Cup comes around though. Too bad, it is their loss. Always like to bring up to soccer haters the fact that football has only about 11-12 minutes of action in a game.

Real Time Football

And yes I am a football fan, along with F1, golf and cycling. "European" sports - I'll take them.

Same thing with the Olympics. HUGE international event. American pride. Doesn't have much to do with the sports themselves.

Most people hate it because they have no idea what the shite is going on so they claim to hate it so they don't look stupid. It's not that they hate it. They just don't know anything about it so to counter their insecurities they cover it up by making it seem like they just hate it too much to pay attention.
