In the USA

No shite. But again, the level of exposure Americans have for soccer does not explain the level of vitriol. The fact this board exists on a site like this is testament to that, as no one wanted us posting on the MSB, not for any particular reason.
The vitriol doesn't bother me, as often it's ridiculous, with people saying its a sissy sport or it's a communist sport, but there is absolutely nothing to indicate that such statements are "teasing."

Please elaborate on the vitriol? It's not like you're a segregated class in society. There are dozens of soccer organizations in S.E.LA. for children and adults that have matches in the various parks on almost every weekend. The parking lots are filled and their are hundreds involved.
I was under the impression that having the Soccer Board was a good thing, not akin to being forced to sit in the back of the bus. With so many topics started on this board, soccer would likely dominate the More Sports Board if this didn't exist. The Soccer Board seems to have been earned and in order.
Some really seem to post as if they have developed a victimization complex when perhaps thicker skin is in order.

The SB is awesome and I'm glad to have it. But in the old days we kept all soccer talk in one thread on the MSB. My point is that we got daily complaints and postings by people annoyed at the mere fact of a soccer thread on the board at all. The World Cup and the desire to keep all soccer threads due to the tournament in one place created the soccer board in earnest and it's grown exponentially from then. But in the old days there were maybe five or six posters who posted soccer news.
As for the comments, it's mostly stupid shite like "real men don't play soccer" or "soccer is a commie sport" or long pointless discussions about how the sport will never catch on in the states.
My point is that the lack of exposure, which you pointed out, does not explain comments like these. Soccer fans, who in general are reasonable, assume ignorance because what type of fricking idiot would actually believe soccer is a commie sport. Then you have people who assume that soccer fans have a superiority complex and/or have a thin skin because they see soccer fans reacting to these mouth breathers.
I should add that this is definitely an Internet thing. Most people I interact with on a daily basis don't give a shite one way or another.

And this is the answer for the whole thread. The internet magnifies and fosters rude behavior. You have to be able to brush off that foolishness. In real life people are indifferent or are coming around to soccer.

Some people are pretty insistent. I remember one argument on the MSB where someone insisted that soccer was a communist sport because it didn't foster specialization in its positions. There have been some amazingly retarded arguments made against the sport on this website and others so I don't think you can speak for the beliefs of all those people. On the Internet it's difficult to tell, especially with the weird jingoism that appears in those sorts of threads.

Number 1 reason: Flopping to fake injuries to get fouls. America hates some of the pussy diving and all the faking that some players do from other countries.
Also, the draws and low score games don't appeal to people of the USA.
Another reason would be that not as of recently have we become fairly competitive at the sport and if we got a few big name players I believe that would help the sport. I am a huge soccer fan btw.

Well the NBA has flopping and the NFL has a lot of players faking injuries to buy more time. Also, baseball games usually don't have a high score. Would it be better if a goal was worth 5 points?

I don't think it's the diving that turns people off. It's the rolling around screaming in agony theatrics after the diving that does it.

True, but I think Americans are in denial about the frequency of the act within their own sport. It's also not fair to group countries like Italy where it is accepted culture, with countries like England and Germany who despise it more than Americans do.

No, it isn't. However, with the large number players from those countries where it is accepted playing in leagues like the EPL, it makes it harder to avoid.
ETA: And when you think about the time when most Americans watch soccer (World Cup), the majority of those games feature a country where those theatrics are the norm. So naturally, people are going to associate it with the game.

Right, but a lot of those players change their play style to suit the country they play in. For example, an EPL referee is much less likely to award a penalty for a dive than a referee from Italy. So most often (not always), players who employ simulation tactics tend to not continue to do so because it usually won't work in England.

That's probably the best point yet. I can see that. The only thing is, if you're going to criticize a sport, don't base it off of one tournament held once every four years, where less than half of the teams do the act in question.

You can neither love nor hate something you don't know, so I would say that most soccer haters don't actually hate soccer anymore than they hate organic chemistry.
