Why do people hate christiano Ronaldo?

As a soccer novice who is paying attention for the first time in 8 years explain why.
Messi seems fairly universally beloved. The opposite for Ronaldo. I used to dominate on fifa on Xbox 360 with Ronaldo so due to this I know that he is more talented than Messi.

As a lifelong United fan, I love CR7. But he is extremely arrogant and can sometimes be selfish on the field (not passing to open teammates, being upset he didn’t get the ball even when his team scores). He tends to make it all about himself. I can definitely understand this rubbing people the wrong way.

I used to hate him but eventually you come to respect the incredible work he puts in to being the greatest player ever. He's an a-hole but he's probably just frustrated knowing he works harder than his teammates and it pisses him off when they fail him.

I used to get so pissed when the AI would screw up their crosses to me. Would instantly call for a sub.

The 2nd comment nailed it. And I’m the same, he’ll always be my goat. He came back to the premier league for the 2nd time at 36, when Messi left Barcelona he chose to go play in France. (Basically you can see the same skill level on Burbank on the weekends)
