Outside of John Brooks and Julian Green (due to them scoring goals), which players exceeded you expectations or preconceived notions?

For me, Besler was solid, Yedlin showed a great deal of poise today and other matches and Omar Gonzales made me a believer.

the entire defense.

and JJ. always kinda liked him, but understood some of the negativity. never would have thought he would ball out at the WC like he did though.

Jones. I hated him before the WC. We wouldn't have gotten out of the group without him. He was solid every game

I'll agree with Jones. He balled out this tournament.

This. This was a big worry from the start but they held out better than I thought. Still need some help in that area though. Also agree with you on Jones as well.

I think the triangle in the group of Besler,Beckerman and Jones performed WAY above my expectations and are the reason the USMNT was in the position it was in today in the knock-out round.

Aside from several of the names already mentioned, I didn't expect as much out of Dempsey playing out of position like he was

Beasley. I am on record multiple times saying we would get eaten alive against WC opponents if he started at LB.
I underestimated him and overestimated lots of other guys.

Yedlin showed a lot. He has something to build on. Needs to get out of MLS.

You expected LESS than what he did?

Jermaine Jones. I was never impressed with him and considered him a liability. He was our best outfield player by far and now one of my favorites.

Dempsey on the other hand, lazy as hell. If it's not an obvious goal scoring opportunity he's walking around and not pressuring. He may bring it up to a light jog if the ball is within 5 feet.

No. Defense was pretty bad today.
