You obviously never played. He was challenging for the ball (1), had cleats pointed down (2), pulled up the second he realized he had landed on his ankle (3), and the opposing player was uninjured (4). Every indication, whether in slow-mo or at full speed, showed it was unintentional (5)

There's at least 5 reasons you could easily "see to overturn it"

Doubt they will appeal, it they should.

If Ecuador can officially appeal fans making noise all night before their game, we should definitely be able to appeal a terrible call where the ref went outside of their own protocols
