I remember a couple years ago I stopped by the Exxon in my neighborhood. There was a tall dude working there with an obvious African accent that he seemed almost shy about. "where you from, man?" I asked him, "Ghana" he replied. I said "oh, man-y'all beat our asses in the World Cup" and the dude lit up. I thought then, that despite my feelings about soccer-this is what it's about. Some guy from a dirt poor nation that can have some real pride once in a while.
