I had it on my TV ... but, was not watching the whole time. Took a nap from about halftime until about the middle of the second half.
I do the same thing with NASCAR and golf.
Gotta do my part for the ratings.
I have no interest anymore in the World Series ... the games last way too long ... gotta watch the Managers spit seeds and crotch scratch and such. Unbearingly long.
I watched every minute of the NBA finals and countless playoff games.
Americans like the World Cup ... so long as USA is still in the mix. After that ... ratings will drop to nada.
We need to advance. Gives everyone something to look forward to.
But let's not pretend that Americans care more about soccer than our traditional Big 3. Not yet anyway.

Not really, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa averaged 7.9 million viewers per game in America, in much worse time slots.

Read earlier today that Univision has already passed their mark for total World Cup viewers at this point in the tournament from the entire tournament in 2010.

That's good, but the corner won't be turned until people are watching MLS week after week in great numbers. Investors can't plan on how the national team does once every four years.
There's good news here too though, MLS genuinely is getting competitive with the NHL in that regard. So there's a ways to go but much progress has been made.

3. Get rid of draws/ties. No one likes that crap either. Especially when a damn tie is viewed as a loss for one team and a win for the other.
4. Get rid of the pussy rules in child soccer leagues. Kids know the score. They know. Taking an absolute arse-whipping every once in awhile prepares a kid for the real world.
5. Get more hot chicks on the women's teams and get them to take off their shirts. Hotter than Brandi Chastain.
6. Bring in way more Latin and South American peo .... nevermind ... check.

Perhaps... but parents putting lazy kids out there who have on interest in football, baseball, and basketball ... and get thrown on a soccer team and must be played ... ain't helping either.
At any given moment ... there might be 25% of the kids out there that are actually doing something.
What I am talking about ... is this shite in which players must be sat because the score is 5-0 ... or, cones or shirts get set up and you have to instruct players not to shoot for the goal ... or else the coach gets banished and other wittle kids and dey wittle pawents get dey feewings huwt .... need more orange slices, more capri suns, more Gay Focker participation trophies. STAT!

By the way ... elite athletes choosing other sports also isn't helping.
I tried to keep my kids in soccer. They begged to play football (Americano futbol) until I finally relented.
(No, I am not implying that any of them are elite.)

navy, I know you're probably trolling... BUT:
I think you have a gross misconception of youth soccer in the US. Your comments are of dad-coached rec soccer. Kids may start there, but the better players find their way in to Select or Competitive Soccer, where there are usually professional coaches, and the focus should be on player's development with winning games as a secondary concern.
If the game grows in popularity, more elite level athletes will choose the sport. It will take years and years, but it will come.
Also, we don't need to "Americanize" soccer. We tried that in early years of MLS, and it did not pay. Learn the rules of the game, and you will be able to appreciate it as is.
