This is easily the worst I can remember but we also did really poorly in 2002, apparently.
Today's game reminded me a lot of the Azerbaijan tune-up in 2014 where we couldn't break down a compact team that had nowhere near the same talent as us. And it didn't even seem like we were trying.
Wasn't until we subbed on Bacon and Mix (two guys who didn't even factor in Brazil) that we scored.

Jesus. We couldn’t score a goal on the Saudis? Are we fricked in November??

I think Zimmermans “lack of pace” is way overstated. I really don’t remember him ever getting dusted or battleshipped or whatever you want to call it
And to touch in the Ream/Brooks deal: there were several times in the first half where the ball was at Longs feet and Yedlin was sitting in acres of space begging for a diagonal only for Long to make a 8 yard sideways pass. The one time he did try hit he looked like a Sunday league accountant

He's not slow, got a quick first step, but he's also not fast to where he can cover ground if a ball gets played behind his pairing.
Having someone pacy like Miles or Richards allowed for Walker to do what he does best, step up and sniff out a pass into his area without fear of what is going on behind him.

Maybe he wanted to try some last minute stuff before the World Cup, but idk. We didn’t really go for it.
This is what I have been telling myself all morning. He treated this more like a scrimmage or a true pre-season game where he had objectives he wanted to see, or players he wanted to see do certain things no matter what the outcome.

That article from the Guardian is spot on. Maybe even a little more generous to Berhalter than I would be.

Then again, this is an injury-prone side short of depth – the US struggles if their handful of stars are absent or out of sorts
This is the real issue—with all of our 1’s we might get out of the group, but one weak link breaks the chain. And MRob’s absence might be it. We have a solid XI to build around, but need real options 12-18 to have any chance of making noise in ‘26. When Kellyn Acosta, Jordan Morris, and Paul Arriola are getting meaningful minutes, you aren’t there yet.

To be fair, of those three, only Acosta is "2nd" on any theoretical depth chart. Our winger depth is fine, only one of Morris and Arriola will even make the roster.
The issue is CB depth and lack of any 9's.
