He was very disciplined in the back and helped the backline out a lot.

I'd like to see Jozy Bacon up top
Clint at CAM and bradley back to CDM. From tonight I'd put Bedoya on the left and Zusi on the right.
The back line is a mess, but we will find out more vs Turkey

Bradley is a much better player in open games. With the Azeris bunkering 10 behind the ball, Bradley couldn't pick out a runner on the flanks. As I previously mentioned, the wind carried pretty much any lofted through ball an extra 20 yards.
Look at his performance against Mexico for comparison. The Mexicans never would attack with less than six players running. That opened space for Bradley to ping it out wide and to find Wondo on the second goal.

Bacon won't start unless Jozy falls apart, but I think Mix could. I think we tend to overrate Bradley's offense and underrate his defense. Not sure he can or should play the playmaker role in our group.
IOW I would use Mix as the CAM if he keeps this up.

I think we need the boys to do a beefcake calendar.
For science.

If jones is an liability at the CDM role would we not put Bradley there, Clint at CAM and Jozy and Bacon up top?

He was having trouble working himself into enough space to even receive the ball with the way AZ was set up

I just cannot believe we would try that diamond against Portugal and Germany.

That sounds like a disaster, sorry.

The problem there was that Jones is not a liability there.

Everyone needs to calm the f down about Bradley. He can have an off game. He will be fine.
The diamond forces jones to stay deep and he played well in that role tonight.
Bedoya is pure hustle. Did a lot tonight to get a starting spot in Brazil.
Besler's partner might not be decided until after the Nigeria game. Need them to be tested more.
Mix is a Norwegian sex god
Hope we see green instead of Davis off the bench next game.

The huge problem with Jones is his penchant for getting caught in possession against quick teams. See his performance against Honduras in San Pedro Sula. The Azeris had no more than two players attacking the American defense at once, which opened up the room for Jones to take his time passing.
That being said, it was the most disciplined I've ever seen him as a true defensive midfielder with the national team.

@tempofreesoccer: . @nwb_USMNT Portugal only team to score more than two goals vs Azerbaijan in last three years.

We need at least two DMs but I repeat myself.

that'd be more comforting if it wasnt a team in our group

He's hardly ever asked to play as a true defensive mid for the USA

No shite. Toronto is going to be hard pressed to keep him.

I chortled a bit.
I'm not concerned about a lack of goals from open play against a team that was obviously bunkering.
In fact, scoring two from set pieces against a team like that is pretty solid work.

But, my biggest issue is I don't know why we ran out a lineup like that in a World Cup prep game. Are we really going to try to put a really attacking lineup on the field in Brazil?
I may need to get a keg if that's the case.
