LOL you think your opinions validate your soccer IQ. On paper is irrelevant in international soccer and it’s precisely why we are traditionally a middle of the pack, solid team. We have had several “great” players on paper and it has translated to nothing during the only tournament that matters. Turkey being given a good chance of winning the pool is more of a reflection of the pool they are in and not of Turkey as a squad.
Turkey isn’t just good on paper. They made it to quarters in the Euros two years ago and nearly beat the Netherlands. In fact, I think they were leading most of the game and ended up losing via an own goal. But that was an amazing game.
Overall, this was a pretty weak group, but not because of Turkey. Those dudes can ball.

Question, what are your thoughts on Dest? In the last WC I thought he might turn into something almost special. I still think he is a menace coming off the wing but I can't quite get excited with him..... tell me I don't know what I am looking at.
I’ll second Broski here.
Dest and Antony Robinson coming into the squad after injury absolutely transformed us .
Robinson just adds to that left side and makes things even more complicated for defenses, and Dest adds that for the right side so that teams can’t just shift to their right and try to bog down that part of the attack. They actually have to respect the left because Dest is there, and the beauty of it is that both Dest and A-Rob have the ability and pace to get back in transition to snuff out cutback opportunities.
That aside, Dest is without question our best 1v1 player with the ball. It’s not even remotely close. He can dribble damn near anyone, creates space, passes deliciously, and has a wand for both feet in terms of shooting. He plays beautiful, stylistic, and fun to watch football while still being intelligent about when and where he applies it.
There is a reason he is being associated with the biggest clubs in the world this summer.

OK. I'm not saying anything negative, but I was thinking he could be more of a scoring threat than he has been in this WC. I do like his dribble and his speed

He's really a wingback by trade. He's more dangerous providing service into the other guys making runs and taking the occasional blast from range.
Speaking of, I wasn't in the thread last night, but that ball Berhalter hit was probably the cleanest strike I've seen since Thiago Alcantara scored that screamer against Porto in the Champions League a few years ago. Just a frickin thunderbolt.

Understood! I didn’t think you had any negativity in mind.

I can think of a certain Jedi Master that would like a word…

And that's what he's playing for us, no matter how many services say we're playing a back 4.
It's a 3-4-2-1 with Jedi and Dest as the wingbacks.

I've been critical of the nepo but have to give credit where it's due. Our overall player technique and skill level is miles beyond what it has been the last 2 decades. Hell trusty's goal was a hell of a strike as well. Throw Balogun's goals in game 1 and that is stuff we're just not used to seeing.
And agree with others. Dest is absolutely critical for us. He's going to have some games where things don't come off etc but he's an absolute menace down the right and constantly pulls 2 defenders in his direction which creates a ton of space for others. When he's in form, it's essentially on the level of Pulisic on the left which is a great problem to have.

How is it nepo when he wasn't called up until after his dad was fired?
And on top of that, he has been one of the better performing players since Poch took over.
Just seems like a lazy trope without much thought behind it other than having misguided PTSD from his last name.

Why? To put it in NFL terms, we already had the division wrapped up and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. We benched our starters in the last game, lost a close one, and now we focus on the playoffs.
No reason to be upset at all

Didn't get to post last night, just want to say boy is Pepi disappointing. Thank God Balogon chose us.
Posted on 6/26/26 at 2:38 pm to Ssubba
Everything Pepi did was a step too slow. You can get away with that in the Eredivisie but not top international football.

PTSD is still PTSD but fair point. I'll cut it loose if he continues playing with that kind of effort and heart.
He was legitimately good yesterday.

Don’t respond to the troll who has unfortunately migrated here from under the bridge of the MSB

A Berhalter from the MLS representing the USMNT, yeah that's PTSD
I also agree with you, he was the most impactful player in the starting 11 on the field last night. I watched the rebroadcast this morning with a much clearer head, if his last name was Smith my kids would be running around with his name on their back.
He has the grit this generation is missing and needs and he is an absolute killer on set pieces. He is still very raw though, he looked out of position in the Panama game, and got very reckless/handsy in the box in that game. A couple years in Europe would be very good for him, I would imagine he gets the opportunity after this, if he hasn't already, and I hope he takes it.
