I’m not unhappy with that performance. Miles was arguably at fault somewhat for both goals and I don’t expect him to get a lot of game time barring injuries

RM and RCB/RB are the big questions. Just have to get better play out of those positions to make some noise.

I wasn't crazy about sending Dest forward so much today.

Are you talking about Dest and Freeman?

I think I'm more confident in them than anyone else on our backline.

We aren't winning, much less scoring a goal, any games unless Dest is involved in the attack. I would think the past 2 games would validate that to anyone.

That’s a crazy take dude.
He and Jedi are absolutely key to us scoring.
They can take guys on, as witnessed today and against Senegal, and make things happen.

Arguably, I think that pair might be the best duo of wingbacks in the World Cup.
They and Adams are keys for us.

Adams

I'm worried about him.

He was kinda lazy in his recovery runs and it led to goals scored in each of the last two games.

If we're bombing numbers forward, he absolutely has to be the elite fire extinguisher that he was in Qatar where he had a never ending motor.

I don't mind Dest assisting, but Dest shouldn't be our main scoring option. We have Pulisic and Balogun for that. He tried to take some shots today that were awful. He should be tap-in only and setting up others.

...wut?

Dest is literally our best 1v1 player on the ball. I'm not exactly sure what you want him to do instead.

Pulisic is good 1v1 no doubt, but it's more speed base. Dest is our best because he is elite at beating dudes off the dribble in tight spaces because he has by far the best dribbling skills on the team.

I'm legit unsure what you're not seeing with Dest. He was our best player in Qatar and has picked right back up where he left off since coming back from injury.

I like Dest a lot. This isn't a dig at Dest, just think that we're better served with him as the setup man and not trying to finish goals himself.

How many shots did Dest take these last two games?

completely understand where you’re coming from. but like Weston, I think Adams suffers from a circumstance problem. again, skepticism is entirely well founded. but at least for me, he’s built up a reserve of trust based on past performance

honestly, this entire thing has me worried about his health. I know you’ve said similar things, but if he’s not 100%, we’re getting grouped. if he is 100%, well frick, roll the dice

Having watched the match again, here are my main takeaways:

1. I'm still not sure what Matt Freese is supposed to be good at. At least with Turner we know we have a good shotstopper and a dude who has World Cup experience.

2. Miles is washed, full stop, and should not play a minute of the WC unless it's out of necessity. He got somehow let Germany's best player get free in the box on the first goal and should've gotten a piece of the shot on the second goal. With that said, he isn't the sole problem on both goals. Freese absolutely needs to come out and grab the service on the first goal and Adams just let Sane run right by him to receive the pass at the top of the box.

3. Jedi's goal is up there with Jermaine Jones vs Portugal, Wynalda vs Swiss & Bradley vs Mexico as one of the purest struck goals in USMNT history, regardless of competition. It was Benny's volley vs Mexico in the Gold Cup by 10x better.

4. Our transition into the attack was really good and could be deadly. Our sloppiness on the ball when trying to build out of the back led to some really stupid turnovers though.

5. Warts and all, if we play like we've played these last two friendlies, we probably win the group.

I think Türkiye wins the group. We play them last and are no more than one deep at every position. I fully expect us to be down 2-3 starters by then. Players are dropping like flies after playing 50-60 games this season, and now there’s an extra round in the WC. MLS guys should be a little fresher, but there’s a reason they’re still in MLS. This tournament will be an attritional battle and we don’t have the depth.

Guess it depends on starters.
Hoping we’re up a couple goals on Paraguay and the Aussies so we can get some guys rest.
Playing at home is gonna be energizing.

We have attacking mids/wingers we can rotate.
Our strikers can rotate.
Richards should be rested.

For the most part I agree, but I have orders of magnitude more trust in Freese with the ball at his feet than Turner when building out of the back.

I guess, but that is moreso because Turner has clubs for feet. Freese isn't good with his either.

If both GKs are bad with their feet, I'd rather play the one that is a better shotstopper even if he is worse than the other guy who is still bad with his feet.

Are you sure about that? That outside the box goal by the Belgian FB was a fricking weak attempt that Turner was stuck in molasses.
