UEFA head calling for 40 team world cup

I liked the move from 24 to 32, but 32 is exactly right, imo.

Ok, so how do you reduce it from 40?
the only way to go is to 32 - and then what, only 8 teams don't make the knockout round? Stupid.
Or do you try and reduce it from 40 to 16? so some second place group teams don't make it? Or 40 down to 20 (top two of each group), with the top 4 group winners getting a bye? So you get rewarded for having an easy group, which is alrdady its own reward?
Its just ridiculous. 32 divides easily into the 16 required for an even knock-out round. Top two of each group.

Top 2 teams make it out of a 5 team group. I racked my brain for hours trying to come up with this.

5 team groups still doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but if they are going to do it, it makes the most sense out of all of the options and probably the only way to do it. Glad it took you so long to come up with it. 
Seems to eliminate the entire way the World Cup is set up right now though, with the different pots trying to match teams from the different regions and create some semblance of competitive balance, even if it doesn't really do it.
There are going to be some really weak 5 team groups, and some really devastating ones too.
Unless a group with Switzerland, Honduras, Cape Verde, New Zealand/Jordan and Chile sounds awesome to you? Though most likely Oceanna will be put into the US/Concacaf Pot so that we can't draw the worst of the worst.

This is a stupid idea, it waters down what's already a fairly watered down process in qualification. Teams would only meaningful games every other year. Platini is a moron, he's just pandering for votes, and remember this is the same guy responsible for giving Qatar the 2022 WC for political reasons

I can imagine Platini sitting down with a calendar, a calculator, and a map trying to figure this one out.

Not necessarily.
Africa probably gets its own pod.
We (concacaf) will get stuck with Oceanna, maybe Asia? Either way, the way they make the pods won't necessarily help us.
Five teams also eliminates some of the luster from an upset in the group stages as a Honduras upset of England provides another game to come down for Honduras (i.e. Honduras probably isn't beating Egypt or wheover else is in their gruop) and another game for England to catch up.
So this benefits the stronger (read - UEFA teams) so that they can survive one upset more easily.

This is a great idea! The only thing the World Cup is missing is teams like Papa New Guinea and Seychelles in the competition.

Randy, I haven't seen either of those teams play. Will you post their FIFA (VG, not real life) rosters and player rankings, so I can get an idea of their quality?
