How did you even come to believe this? You think people get better technique just because they have better athleticism? There are so many more things that factor into that. And athleticism differs from sport to sport in many ways. But obviously I'm wasting my breath on you.
All of this.

You're welcome.
I don't know what popcorn was expecting... that he would just spurt out his idea and we would all try to be the first to jump on his D? I mean I know we're the soccer board but shite, sorry for disagreeing.

This seems like a good thread to ask something I've been wondering. My son is stupid athletic and I've looked into youth soccer local around me for him but these "clubs" want way to damn much money and way too much of a commitment.
I can't find a place for ~ $100 to sign him up for just a spring or fall league. Noooo, they want a full year commitment and outrageous thousands of dollars of fees to play.
Why shouldn't I just keep him in track/football/basketball/baseball?

Have you heard of the indoor center in Gonzalez? Especially if he's never played before, that's a good place to start. And it won't be stupid expensive. "Club" soccer refers to one level above rec soccer, ie the kids who pay to play on travel teams who have to try out to make the team and are really looking for college scholarships.
ETA: You may not be in Baton Rouge. Try to see if there is an indoor soccer center in your area that offers youth leagues.

This is what this thread is really all about. In America we pay to play. In other countries these kids as young as 8 or 9 are sent off to go to school and be coached by elite coaches at academies.
My son play.s on a club team that is actually reasonable. Many of the players are poor Hondurans and the guy who owns the club will subsidize what he can for them. One of the fathers of those players couldn't believe you had to pay to play and get good coaching here. In Honduras the kids are given everything from cleats to meals to play. It has to change here to get those 'hungry" athletes to switch to soccer.
It isn't a way out sport here. It is a way to college sport here for most of the elite players.

This reminds me of this amazing golfer. He grew up playing hockey, but could never figure out how to skate. Thanks to his grandmothers house being taken away by the bank he was forced to play golf. I guess by your logic he would have made an amazing soccer player, but thank god Tiger Woods stuck to golf.
ETA: In case you didn't pick it up, this is how crazy you sound. Just because someone is a freak athlete by no means does that mean his abilities will translate to other sports.

I haven't read the entire thread, but obviously whatever is in the OP is an ignorant statement. We don't lack for athletes, we lack for technicality, and I'm sure something similiar has already been said countless times, but....
It is way more likely that OBjr would have been the second coming of Eddie Johnson and not the American Thierry Henry.

If Eddie Johnson was the low median for the type of players that we produced, I'd be ok with that.

Bingo. Just read the page before this one to get an idea of the main argument against what you, and everyone else here, realizes.

Talk about good timing! $70 and they are going to let us late register I think and get involved. Ten minutes from the house. Gracias!

Always wanted to play there, but it seems you can't just walk up and play (or just join a team).

This is the biggest difference that anything in terms of having the elite technical players to compete with European and South American teams.
A lot has to change for this to ever happen in the US.

Our best athletes are self-selecting out of soccer before they are 10 years old.
No one really disagrees with any of the points about better athletes and more overall athletes playing soccer certainly helping.
The reaction is due to so many people oversimplifying this argument to the degree that it completely ignores the much, much, much salient issue: the US doesn't have the developmental structure in place to consistently develop mediocre or elite athletes into truly world class soccer players no matter how many there may be to choose from.
To compare it to US football: the cultured from the crib Peyton Mannings are missing a lot more than the Odell Beckham Jrs.

I could just as easily argue that Jozy is just as good if not better of an athlete than Paul, Wstbrook and DWade.
I was going to type out a long response to explain how wrong you are with this shite but it's useless. Good god, if you actually believe this, then there's no helping you.

Athletic ability isn't the issue with the US team. We are as athletic as any team except for probably Brazil and some of the West African teams. The difference is being coached well at a young age and focusing on the mental and technical aspects of the game.
