I’m not in the “who cares” boat. I’m in the boat that says our leadership has earned my confidence in their recruitment and results over the last few years. If we aren’t buying a CB, I trust it is for good reason.

Besides, we keep talking about CBs, buts it’s scoring goals that are in fact the problem the last few games, not conceding them.

I’m not going to be in the camp of expecting a clean sheet every game, it’s just not realistic.

Annddd we just scored 4 goals. Yes a joke of a Villa team but whatever, the team will be fine.

Just watched the highlights.

Thiago, Minimano and Shaqiri all getting in the mix.

That still leaves Salah, Mane, Fab, Firmino, Gini, Hendo, Keita and Ox on this roster. Not to mention Jones. Oh and TAA and Robertson.

This team is absurdly loaded. Look at our lineup compared to even City. There’s maybe 2-3 players in the whole league that would crack our starting 11. That’s wild. It’s video game stuff minus the CB depth.

To be fair, it isn’t only CB depth that worries me... LB and RB depth are not ideal at all either.

Which team’s fullback depth would you rather? Trying to think of a team where the fullback depth is a strength or what makes them elite.

Leicester's fullback depth is pretty nuts between Pereira, Castange, Justin, Barnes (somewhat), and Fuchs.

So you’d take that over TAA/Neco Williams and Robertson/tsimakas (however you spell his name) with Milner as well?

Me, I’ll pass. There’s a gap between our first team and backups but I’ll take that over less talented first and more talent sitting on the bench

My point in bringing this up is that if we plan to be a perennial power and a destination team, which I think is Klopp/FSGs goal, then we need to make sure we have heavy quality in our depth.

We have achieved that at striker and most of the midfield spots. The back line suffers heavily when we have injuries though in terms of depth. We are blessed to have some youngsters that are doing very well and coming along quickly, but it would serve us better to farm those guys out for cash and get them experience while we ride quality depth on the senior team.

How we feeling about this weekend gents?

Tbh I’m not feeling very confident. I have no data to back this up but it feels like anytime we have a long break we seem to play rusty. Seems like we do our best when we play every 3-4 days, guessing cause we can get into a rhythm. I’m sure that’s why Klopp played a lot of the regulars in the FA Cup

Reports are Matip struggling to get fit (shocker). Not sure who I’d want at the back with Fab. Hendo is so important for the midfield idk how I feel about him starting at cb but then it’s between Rhys and Nat and that’s a ton of pressure on them. Between the 2 I’d probably lean Phillips...Rhys has been great at times but seems to get burned a little too much and Martial/Rashford could have a field day with that

Feeling sort of the same, but that’s because our recent run of looking a little flat vs subpar competition. I think our track record shows we tend to play up or down to competition. As others have mentioned, CB depth is a concern but the real issue lately has been converting chances on attack. Offense has kind of gone flat.

Re: CB depth, Fabrizio tweeting this morning that Arsenal would be willing to sell us Sokratis this transfer window. On one hand, we’re a Fabinho injury away from being royally screwed...on the other hand, I’m not sure Sokratis adds much value.

Klopp has to go with Hendo in the back, no way either of the young ones are ready. I’d love to see Shaq teamed up with Thiago in the MF.

If Hendo is at the back I’d love a Thiago, Gini and 45 min of Ox/45 min of Shaq midfield

Been slammed all week and am out of touch... Matip is out for certain??

I tend to agree on Phillips over Williams... Williams runs like he's in quicksand... I am seriously surprised at how slow he is, given his frame... Not like Phillips is fast though but he does offer a much better aerial presence..

I really dont want to see Hendo at CB...

Still aggravated that we didnt have a new CB (buy or loan) on 1/1/2021...

Not for sure, but you know his migrating muscle strain will show up soon enough.

Joel Matip returned to training with the #LFC squad this afternoon. Will two sessions be enough to convince Klopp to throw him straight back into the team to face United? Three weeks since he last played. Big decision for the manager with so many games coming up.

Looks like we're going to combat our defense with an all out attack... If we go down, we go down swinging!
