I was afraid we would set up like that. But still unlucky it ended 3-0
Honestly, we definitely looked like we could get at them, so I guess there’s still a chance in the home leg. But yea, that’s what we get for just hoping we could just take a 1-0 deficit back to Anfield

I love this team.
I think they had their chances.
Barca made theirs. We didn't.
Anyone who wants to whine about set-up and choice of line-up wasn't watching the match. It should have been 3-2 Barca at WORST, but we botched our chances and they made theirs.

It sucks because I think we get a W against that side 6/10 times on a neutral ground. We outplayed them for large stretches of the match and they were clearly uncomfortable against us. We just didn’t make them pay and they had 2 moments of brilliance. I give us a 1% chance of advancing, but the tie is not over. Anfield is a different breed of cat, and our quality was apparent today despite the lackluster finishing. The league is all but lost, and big ears is now a major longshot, but it isn’t over until it’s over. The match against Dortmund at Anfield taught me that.
They converted 2 really difficult chances and we missed 3 or 4 relatively easy ones. That’s soccer sometimes. If we score in the first 15’ at Anfield, we can beat those frickers

So nobody thinks van dijk had a terrible game? I know he’s our defensive savior, but let’s be honest here. He left a lot on the pitch

I don't think he had a bad game at all.
He had a couple of one-on-one's with Messi that he WON.
The Liverpool forwards and MF had chances that they fugging MISSED. Repeatedly.
The Barca guys had chances that they put into the back of the net.
If you wanna blame the defense or the manager in this game, I don't get it. If you HAVE to have a scape-goat to blame, then its the forwards and midfield. Because they had multiple chances to score and they DIDN'T.

Interestingly enough, you have NO comment about the fact that the offensive players, who are commonly recognized as the best on the Liverpool squad, scored NOTHING among many, many chances.
You understand, as a team concept, that team DEFENSE is a whole helluva lot easier if the offensive players do their damn job, right?
But, yeah, DAMN that VVD for allowing the best player in the world to score a damn goal!
