You know I'm right. I'm okay with gay marriage - it's just complete lameness tho to interject that into a pure moment. No place in sport for that, lads.

It's a legit question of why. It makes no sense really.

Soccer is a political outlet for many clubs. Supporting Rangers is a way for many in Scotland to support Protestant Unionism. Supporting Celtic is a way for many in Scotland to support Catholic Irish Republicanism. If you are a leftist in Rome, you support Roma. If you are a right winger in Rome, you support Lazio. In England, Newcastle fans are historically pro-monarchy, as they supported the Cavaliers in the English Civil War. Sunderland fans are historically parliamentarians, as they supported the Roundheads in the English Civil War.

My point is, it's natural for tribalism to occur in sports. One cannot expect said tribalism to be limited to supporting a team, especially when the reason for supporting said team may be based on demographic or political similarities.

I think Orlando does it partially bc of the gay nightclub shooting.

Soccer is still the alternative sport in America. The SEC frat stars, by and large, aren't going to MLS and USMNT games, even if they watch/support them. It also happens that the top three fan bases are in in Seattle, Portland, and Orlando, all cities that are left leaning and extremely LGBT friendly. So while I agree having more rainbow flags than American flags is a bit much, it's not surprising, but as long as people are in the stands and cheering, who cares what their political leanings are, sports, and the national team above all, is an escape from that shite and should unite us. IMO at least.

Agreed.

I don’t bring a flag/poster/symbol displaying my heterosexuality/affinity for heterosexuality. Who gives a frick what you are. You’re there to watch your sports team play.

You realize Orlando is a city that had 49 gay people murdered in a terrorist attack last year, right? And you’re bothered by rainbow flags in the stands of a soccer match? Really? Go back to the poli board.
