It would make the mls better. Instead we have atl united fans that are cringe as much as any Orlando fan.

Outside the baw that tossed the bottle at the ref, it's a baby step but one day flares will reign supreme in the mls and it will be a legit league

No, thanks.

The absence of the awful hooligan culture is one of the best things MLS has going for it. You should be able to go to a match and support your team without fear of being beat up by other fans. Be passionate and drink plenty of beer, even light some flares as long as you don't throw them on the field, but support your team with class and don't throw shite at the players and referees.

We are not third world savages in this country, and our current soccer culture reflects that. Let's keep it that way. There should be no tolerance for the hooligan bullshite that goes on in places like Brazil, Poland, and Russia, just to name a few.

The Bundesliga proves you don't need crazy hooligans to still have a great atmosphere. There are a few, but it's nowhere near as bad as in other countries. I hope MLS stays on its current path.

You make me cringe harder than any fan flying a rainbow flag ever will.

I know that. Ultras are fine, usually. Some of the best supporters around. MLS ultras are heavily modeled off the ones at Dortmund and other places. Nowhere as intense, obviously, but that's fine. Bring drums, and tifos, and flares. All that good stuff. But hooligans cross the line, and I hope that garbage never catches on here.

Hooligans need to stay out of the stadium and beat each other up away from the overwhelming majority of fans who want no part of that shite.

Soccer is a political outlet for many clubs. Supporting Rangers is a way for many in Scotland to support Protestant Unionism. Supporting Celtic is a way for many in Scotland to support Catholic Irish Republicanism. If you are a leftist in Rome, you support Roma. If you are a right winger in Rome, you support Lazio. In England, Newcastle fans are historically pro-monarchy, as they supported the Cavaliers in the English Civil War. Sunderland fans are historically parliamentarians, as they supported the Roundheads in the English Civil War.

This is actually more interesting than soccer itself. What else in this vein have you got?

ETA: I'm not trolling. I'm not much of an MLB fan except for it's history and the way it intermingled in the lives of Americans from 1846 until about 1970.

YouTube "The Real Football Factories", they are about hooligans, but goes into a lot of the history of the different areas and differences. The first season is all England, but they have an international one too.

I'm all for gay rights but I agree the flags are brutal. I don't need your political views on display at a sporting event.

Is that a bit like Ken Burns' Baseball? If not, is there anything similar?

OK, but his issue is not a troll. Why wave a rainbow flag?

This ties into my question for further history about teams and causes, conflicts that unite their fans...maybe.
