I really hate that I can easily formulate an effective system (in theory) based on Arsenal's squad after adding Mhki and Aubameyang (or even without them)
What's your effective system?

yet I know Arsene will do something totally stupid. It's pathetic. I'm a Vandy fan, so I'm used to garbage play and shitty coaching/management. Wenger is reaching level of frustrating equal to anything Vandy has done.
I know the feeling, but it can always be worse. Wenger is obviously conflicted between pragmatism and principles. He wants to play beautiful and win beautiful. The problem is that as the game has evolved, positioning is more important than ever.
I mean, what is one thing this team does super well? Since the youth project fell apart, we've played a mix of systems, and the ones where we won the most were also the most pragmatic. I think that annoys Wenger quite a bit, and he's always looking for a way to toe the line between winning pragmatically and winning beautifully.

Obviously, we would have to show an ability to play cohesively defensively, but I think a lot of that problem comes down to the Wenger idea of playing beautifully putting guys out of position more than the players we have being unable to play defensively. Not sure what the BEST system would be, but I could see a 4-2-3-1 being very effective. Bellerin, Kosc, Moustafi, and Kolasinac at the back with Xhaka and Wilshere in front. Then Sanchez, Ramsey, and Iwobi/Welbeck behind Laca. Or maybe Laca on the right of the 3 with Giroud up top? I'd also think being able to watch the players in training would help make that decision easier. Instead, we see square pegs in round holes every matchday with players who seem to be round pegs left on the bench.

Mkhitarian, Ozil, Auba, and Lacazette in one freaking squad is sexy.

If they brought in Aubameyang, trying to play 3-5-2 would be a total pipe dream right? There's no one in the squad who could play the CDM effectively enough. Maybe Xhaka or Ramsey?
I don't know how you put Aubameyang and Lacazette on the field at the same time if that were to happen.

In theory, yes. In practice, well, we know how these things go now.

If Ozil isn't in the system, then switch to the 4-3-3, and forget about leaving Xhaka in a terrible position ever again.
There are a lot of systems that could work, but why none of them seem to has to do with the principles associated with the manager, not the systems themselves.
God I remember when we played the 4-2-3-1 in 2013/14, we had 33 games we gave up 18 goals, but in 5 games that year we gave up 23. All five were losses. We can have a functional system at times, but it depends on how desperate Wenger is.

I only left Ozil out because he's injured at the moment. But, yeah, he would slot in for Ramsey who could move out right. I forget when Ramsey played on the right, of the 4-2-3-1, but I seem to remember him being really effective out there with Bellerin overlapping.

He was, but if we are shunting midfielders out wide, Wilshere played well on the left in 2013/14 before he was injured. I don't think either Ramsey nor Wilshere would want to play there now.
The 4-3-3 seems the easiest option. If we get Auba, I'd love to see use play a 4-3-1-2, as this does a couple of things. It gives our midfield a solid foundation, it leaves the wings open for Ozil to float into, it gives Xhaka some protection, it allows use to use Welbeck, Giroud, Auba, Lacazette, and Iwobi better, and we wouldn't be playing 3 CB's. We won't use this system though, as the midfield diamond has been one system Wenger has been super reluctant to use, even though it's only limitations are wide play. In the offensive phase, it could look just like a 3 at the back system, with the deepest lying midfielder dropping between the CB's and directing the attack.

Lol.
It’s been what, only four-five years with RVP?
Time for a repeat eh, Arsene?
Let’s sell our best player to Manchester United and win them a championship, redux.

No Alexis seems to agree with us.

Why AMN over Kolasinac in this situation? Thought Wenger said he'd be moving to midfield

Brilliant stuff by the boys so far

Bellerin is the heart and soul of this team.

EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan agrees move to Arsenal in a deal that will see Gunners forward Alexis Sanchez go opposite way. It’s a straight swap, no money involved. Paperwork complete, Mkhitaryan will undergo a medical over the next 2 days #MUFC #AFC

Good stuff today.
Got to keep the 3 in midfield. It's our best chance of keeping the ball which is our best defensive strategy.
Oh yeah, lil shout out to Monreal. 1 goal, 2 assists in a half hour. Hope he's fine, that's def our strongest back 4.

Man U isn’t catching City. And it doesn’t make sense to take less in return to sell Sanchez out of the league when we’re so far away from being title contenders.
Arsenal need to worry first and foremost about improving their squad, and Miki is a pretty good return for a 29 year old with 6 months left on his deal. Especially if this plays a role in getting Aubamayeng here

New best XI? Assuming we get Auba
Cech
Bellerin-Kosc-Mustafi-Monreal
Xhaka-Ramsey
Mikhi-Ozil-Laca
Auba
Maybe Laca and Auba battle up top and we go 4-3-3 with wilshere in the middle and Ozil right?

I am actually so excited to have finally turned a chapter now that Alexis is gone. So pumped for Mkhi to get in the squad and hopefully Auba soon. COYG

The only problem I have with this lineup is it leaves Jack out.
Shunting Özil to the right wouldn't be too bad with Jack in the middle but idk how you keep one of Laca/Auba on the bench.
I'd say the most expendable player would be Xhaka, but he's the closest thing to a DM we have so that wouldn't work too well.
Mkhi is a luxury player like Özil, but if he's on form he's amazing. Just look at September this season, then he was dropped for not tracking back like Mou wants.
Maybe let Özil and Mkhi battle each other for a spot instead of having both in the lineup?
Honestly it seems like a good selection headache to have
