Update on Auba.

#MUFC #AFC confirmation of Sanchez/Mkhitaryan swap Mon/Tue as work permits need updating. Arsenal stepping up Aubameyang pursuit - confident but will drag as must agree fee & possibility of player going other way to #BVB If done no significant funds available for further signings

Hoping we can get that deal done by the end of next week.

Dont really see where Auba fits if we need to pay 70+ million. That money can spent on another position of need imo.

Yup. If I had a choice I would go after a midfielder like Fabinho or Danilo Pereira. That would give us more balance in the midfield and also would allow our other CMs(Xhaka, Jack, Ramsey) to play to their strengths.

these guys don't come available often. if he's there and telling dortmund he wants out, you go get him.

New best XI? Assuming we get Auba
If I trusted Wenger or anybody on the coaching staff to enforce a defensive structure, a 4-4-2 with a narrow midfield diamond could be pretty damned effective. Xhaka would have to be told to hold deep and actually anchor things. He can do it if he's put into that role, but I think Wenger is too worried about free-form attack to enforce it.
Cech
Bellerin-Kosc-Mustafi-Kolasinac
Xhaka
Ramsey-Wilshere
Ozil
Laca-Auba

What that formation usually turns into is 3-5-2. DM drops between CBs. Fullbacks push up to provide width. After his performance yesterday I trust Elneny waaaaay more in that role than Xhaka who I think has been bang average at best this year.

That's what we should do but we won't. El Neny is our best midfielder at not leaving his partner out to dry, outside of Santi.

Am I the only one who thinks that XI with a bench of Giroud, Welbz, Kol, AMN, Ospina, Holding/Chambers and Xhaka would've had us top 4 right now?
Posted on 1/22/18 at 11:16 am to crazy4lsu
Elneny is never caught out of position and he always shows to the ball. His passing was more penetrating yesterday too.

This doesn't do much for my anti-Xhaka stance, but I do think Elneny's presence brought more out of him, too.
Elneny completed 97 percent of his passes. 58 of his 98 total passes were forward. He wasn't dispossessed.
I think he deserves more of a look in a midfield 3.
A lineup of
Cech
Bellerin-Kosc-Mustafi-Monreal
Elneny
Jack-Ramsey
Ozil-Laca-Mikhi/Iwobi
Really intrigues me. If Aubameyang comes, shifting Lacazette left also intrigues me. I do think Iwobi is much better on the left.
I know Wenger won't bench Xhaka for Elneny but I think he's a better fit and I think Xhaka is less of a liability in a more advanced role with an active DM behind him.

Looking good in a Gunners kit. I'm excited.

The twitter-verse is blowing up because of Alexis' comments on Henry leaving Arsenal.
Honestly tho idk how anyone can blame Alexis for leaving. Man said all along he wanted to win. He would've stayed and done that at Arsenal but we're a bunch of unambitious penny pinchers that didn't want to spend money buying world class players.
Wish him the best of luck

If we don't bring in Auba that would be a huge mistake after this.

I guess we just hope to outscore people and say frick playing defense.

I'm just sitting back and taking things in. From past experience I know not to get my hopes up. I'll just wait and see how Wenger fits everyone in the 11. With no expectations maybe I will be pleasantly surprised. If not then oh well it's still COYG.

Is Mikhi worth the 180k he’ll be making over the next 3.5 yrs? Or were we better off sticking with Sanchez for a few more months and freeing up that money for summer transfer? I’m just asking bc I don’t know much about him. Not a knock on the guy.
Posted on 1/22/18 at 3:16 pm to braud2go
If he recaptures his Dortmund form it could be a bargin. 180k isn't as big as number as it was just a few years ago. Theo was on 140k I believe.
