Put a CM with defensive qualities next to Ramsey and Wilshere in a midfeild 3 and I think they would excel
@ Aggie, I'd personally have Ramsey-Xhaka with Jack just in front of them as a 10. Might not be brilliant defensively, but I just feel that given proper coaching and discipline in training Xhaka would be a very good DM.
Never been sold on Micki, and in the games I've watched of his this season (I try to watch every Arsenal and United match) I haven't been all that impressed. Had a really good September but dropped off, maybe because of Mou. Who knows but, as I think crazy said, he's a luxury player.

I actually think Ramsey and Wilshere can work as a midfield two. They have before, for a string of games at the end ofbthe 2012/2013 season, but since the disastrous start to the 2013/2014 season (that embarresing home loss to Aston Villa) they haven't played together.
What they would need is communication and they would need to work together as a unit. Given that neither of them are likely to do that until Wenger leaves, we will be stuck in some shitty hybrid system. Even some clear instruction on when to go upfield, when to make 3rd man runs, and when to stay back would do wonders for both of them.
If we go to the 4-2-3-1 with a pivot involving Xhaka, the most functional system would could have is having Ramsey play underneath the striker and have him be the 3rd CM in the defensive phase. Wilshere has the best close control, and should be the midfielder who drives with the ball and links play. Xhaka has to stop being so damn wayward. In order for any midfield to work he has to be the focal point. He has to improve his handling in deep situations, as his range on the ball is superb, but when teams cut the wide angle pass to the wings, they invite him upfield, an invitation he takes, and then teams crash down on him hard to force a turnover. He's isolated, yes, but can you imagine Fabregas, Nasri, Diaby, Cazorla, Rosicky, and Arteta dawdling on the ball like he does. The difference Xhaka doesn't have confidence to drive the ball into space like the other midfielders we've had, although he's a better passer than all but Cazorla and Fab. He's the most likely of our midfielders to be dispossessed in dangerous positions. If we are going to do anything the rest of the season Xhaka has to get it right.

Hypothetically if they make the move back to a 4-2-3-1, who's in the midfield as the pivot and No. 10 if your options are Wilshere, Ramsey, Xhaka, Elneny, and Mhkitaryan?
Let's play Ramsey there to see if he can't regain his Wales form. I see Mkhi as a wide midfielder. Iwobi is the other option in the team. Otherwise we have to buy someone.

Wasn't that when we tried 4-1-4-1 with Mesut wide and it just took him out of the game?

This was the same season, but the game was about 2 weeks before we bought Mesut. It's this shitshow of a game I'm referring to. LINK
The 4-1-4-1 was the beginning of the next season, and we looked alright in it, although Mesut was useless in it because it gave him no space, and then Mesut and Jack got hurt against Chelsea and Hull respectively, and we never went back to it again. That season we experimented with the fricking double pivot of Arteta and Flamini, which was a pretty terrible midfield pairing. We sucked until Coq came back, and then we looked better although we lost to Monaco, and Spurs.

quick theo story:
i went to vegas with some cousins in january of 2014. my uncle got some free rooms and basically gave us the "find a way to get there and i'll handle the rest" discount.
we were there during the wildcard round of the nfl playoffs. saints at eagles. but that morning happened to be arsenal vs spurs. one of my cousins was a soccer star at jesuit and a massive spurs fan. he knew i followed arsenal so we got up early to place bets and watch the match on the massive screens at the mirage sports book.
he tried to say the right things and be nice when theo got hurt. but you could see that deep down he took a little pleasure in arsenal's bad luck. when theo gave the 2-0 gesture while getting carried off the field, i immediately looked at my cousin and i don't think i've ever seen someone so rustled in my life. i died laughing while he made a scene at 6 in the morning. screaming at the screen about how he (theo) deserved it and arsenal is full of pos players, etc.
the saints won a tough game in philly on a fg as time expired and everyone in the casino went nuts while the 5 of us led a massive who dat chant. great trip and great memory.
still doesn't top the look on his face when theo did that.

Honestly fellas watching Theo's goodbye video made me tear up. fricking sucks that he wasn't used properly.
Man had double digit goals before Christmas last season, was flying high. Got a little injury but nothing big and it's like he never did anything before that.
Then the frickin Palace game and his TRUTHFUL comments led him to be outcast.
RIP to Gabs, THEOOOOOOO and Le Coq

Any insight on Aubameyang rumors?

The Arsenal boss answered questions on the Gabon international, who has been tipped to replace Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates.
Wenger insisted the at times controversial Aubameyang would be suited to life at Arsenal, prompting an angry response from Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc.
“We think it is disrespectful to talk like this about a player from another team,” he said. “There’s no contact with Arsenal.
“We assume that Mr. Wenger has enough concerns with the performance of his own players.”

Sounds like those two would have a rough negotiation.

No developments expected today on Sanchez/Mkhitaryan. Still work to do as currently Mkhitaryan deal hasn't moved on & could yet go either way. Arsenal hopeful on that + Aubameyang. Talks continue. Malcom off - meetings held but eventually deemed too inexperienced #AFC #MUFC #BVB

Mkhitaryan deal up to Raiola. If he agrees it happens, if doesn't it won't. No issue with #MUFC or player. To clarify on Malcolm, reason (among a few) #AFC out was price/value relative to experience - not inexperience alone. Not sure on #THFC reports but Pochettino is a huge fan

They do some weird arse shite over there. Unless I'm not understanding the tweet.
Why on earth would the agent have any say in whether a deal happens?

Because he wants Arsenal to pay him some ridiculously high agent fee. He's well known for trying to bleed clubs dry financially.

Again that's weird. Why would a club pay an agent anything? Agent fees should come from the player. Dumb structure.

Yea I don't agree with it either but it's where we are at with these super agents now and days.

So what's the deal.. Are we getting Aubameyang y'all think?
Posted on 1/19/18 at 1:55 pm to GeauxHouston
DiMarzo and Bild reporting that Arsenal and Aubameyang have agreed to terms, waiting on price to Dortmund. DiMarzo and Bild are usually reliable sources. Ornstein also said on a BBC show that his Arsenal sources say they are very confident that both the Mhki deal and the Aubameyang deal will go through, just a matter of time at this point.
Another source says Dortmunds director is off to London on Saturday to finalize deal but that one comes from a less trusted source (German paper).
Long story short, get your hopes up, then don’t be surprised if we sign neither of them. It’s the Arsenal way.

I really hate that I can easily formulate an effective system (in theory) based on Arsenal's squad after adding Mhki and Aubameyang (or even without them), yet I know Arsene will do something totally stupid. It's pathetic. I'm a Vandy fan, so I'm used to garbage play and shitty coaching/management. Wenger is reaching level of frustrating equal to anything Vandy has done.
