I honestly don't get what's so difficult for people to get about offside.
It works the EXACT same way that it works in football and hockey. There's a line on the field that you can't cross before the ball.
I guess what causes the problem is that there isn't an ACTUAL line on the field.

no, it's the fact that offsides can occur while the game is being played. In football, it happens during pre snap. It's much easier to see.
In soccer, it can be hard to spot if you don't understand the flow of the game and the fact that defenders are playing a game with strikers to tow the line.

smaller area of play i guess.
When you have someone passing from 40 yards away and can't see both players on one screen it makes it hard to visualize.
At least that's my best guess.
And they used to not make it so visual either.

That's fine if you like hockey for those reasons and find soccer boring, but don't come in here with a hockey avatar or sig and make a condescending thread about how soccer is broken because of offsides.

And then my counter-argument for that would be why doesn't baseball get labeled as a "pansy" sport? (And I say this even thought baseball is my favorite sport)
My point is that, for whatever reason, people who don't follow soccer feel it necessary to point out how it's "gay" or "not a sport" and it honestly confounds me at how much angst someone has for a sport they claim to not care about.

This is what gets me. If you don't like it or think it's a "gay" sport, that's fine, but sayings it's not a sport is just ridiculous. The funny thing is if you ask someone to explain why it isn't a sport their answer is almost always " it's fricking gay" or "because it's for fricking pussies".

I don't try to get too upset with it because when someone says soccer is gay it really shows someone's ignorance. I mean, to truly hate a sport you don't understand is strange to me.
Most of the people who say stuff like this aren't the type of people I'm going to be spending my weekend with anyways.

I'll say this: Soccer is the only sport I've ever watched where I enjoy the womens game as much, if not more than, the mens game. (Beach volleyball doesn't count, for obvious reasons)
I enjoyed the womens Olympic matches way more than the mens. I find the girls are way more aggressive a lot of times. And to be honest, any sport where you can see the occasional cuntpunt is okay by me.

Grew up in the soccer world. Lived in neighborhoods where everyone played soccer. Honestly, I've never seen the whole "soccer is gay" thing. I was never ragged for it. In fact, I didn't know this happened until I came to TD.

That seems to be a common Gameday issue here in general

There's a difference and most of it is more difference of opinion, though based on a knowledge of the game... or banter between rival supporters... or Randy's warped view of the world and his contrarian point of view..
