I enjoyed the womens Olympic matches way more than the mens. I find the girls are way more aggressive a lot of times. And to be honest, any sport where you can see the occasional cuntpunt is okay by me.
This is probably because the women's game is taken slightly more seriously at the Olympics than the men's game. The women's competition is the full national team, while the men's is the under-23 side. Also, the U.S. is normally more competitive in the women's competition than the men's, so you have a greater rooting interest.

I've found that most U.S. soccer fans have this elitist mentality. I think that is just as much of a hindrance to the sport growing as the more popular sports.

"You're not dubbed "Johnny Football" for thowing a pretty pas - Tampa Tribune
On Garcia's play, he lofted a pretty pass - WAAY TV Huntsville, AL
The Jets took a 14-6 lead on a pretty pass from Smith - Sports Illustrated
Kane had a power play goal thanks to a pretty pass - thescore.com, NHL website
And that's from only the first page of a Google search for "pretty pass" football broadcast.

It's pretty funny how soccer die hards are wanting the sport to grow and pick up so badly in the US, but people not familiar with the game are met with such negativity on the board.

You are being dishonest. Look, its perfectly fine to not care which adjectives are used to describe it. And I don't think soccer is gay. But don't act like other sports use words like "pretty" anywhere close to as frequently as soccer.
I think you're trying way too hard on this pointless topic. You hear "pretty" or "beautiful" all the time in other sports. Even if it is unique to soccer, why does it matter?

They are only met with negativity when they ask dumbass, trolling questions or make trolling statements. This is probably the most welcoming board on TD by a long shot.

They aren't by any means. We welcome any person who wants to ask relevant questions and is truly interested in becoming a fan of this great sport.

We just get fed up when trolls like you come over and try to belittle a sport loved by millions. We get it you don't like soccer, and want to start shite on the board. Roger, now frick off.

to ask relevant questions
This can be a moving target for people new to the sport. They should feel free to ask anything. Maybe the majority of people on this board shouldn't assume every question or opinion is a troll attempt.

Well when yo phrase "could someone please explain offside to me?" as "soccer would be a lot more exciting without offsides"... you're not going to get great reactions. I think some people are genuinely curious but also can't pass on the opportunity to troll.

I get that Sabi. Just don't be a troll. The difference in interest from just four short years ago is markedly different. I love it.

yeah i agree. i start analyzing the game and say the two goals were cameron's fault. which they were anyone could see that. and some soccer snob fans start berating me saying i cannot analyze soccer and that they've been watching for so and so long. i really dont care. i have two eyes and i know the basics. that's all i need.

The first was for sure, the second was all on Bradley losing possession when a simple pass or just booting the ball down the pitch seals a victory. Every poster here would have taken our position at this moment before the tournament started.
The goal gutted me, but we are in a great position to advance from one of the two toughest groups in WC history.

I have yet to see a legit question, or one asked in a truthful ignorance, not questioned. A lot of troll attempting questions have been the ones where they are asked in a condescending manner and asked in a way that I can only imagine them having a shite eating grin on their face while typing.

The game is becoming more and more popular each day. That's going to bring different ideas, opinions, and viewpoints. I think it's just best to embrace it and contribute in any productive way we can.

is that really true. yeah germany's good, but portugal, ghana and america seem all to be middle of the pack teams.

Portugal has arguably the best player in the world, and a stellar defense when healthy.
Ghana is the best African team in history.
USA is the most consistent team from the CONCACAF federation.

Not at all. Ghana is by far the best African team, Portugal is easily a top 6 European team and Germany is.. well Germany.
USA is a top 20 team in the World right now, no team wants to play us at the moment.
