I don't really understand how the two fan bases have come to hate each other as much as they do. The historical demographics of the two set of fans (at least locally) are pretty much identical. It's not like Inter vs. Milan (blue bloods vs. blue collar) or Real vs. Barca (Spanish nationalists vs. Catalan nationalists) or Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss (farmers vs. lawyers).

Manchester and Liverpool where rival cities even before the clubs hated each other, during the English industry boom. From the docs to mills and factories. European tribalism is something lots of americans can't grasp.

How do y'all argue about this so much?

We are all bandwagon fans. Who honestly gives a frick? Just enjoy the sport

Being a fan of a foreign team makes you exactly that; it doesn't have anything to do with the term "bandwagon".

that's why we have an equal distribution between teams like real, man u, 'pool, and middlesbrough, getafe, palermo, 1860, etc

I picked Arsenal because I was a little kid who wanted to be like Thierry Henry, way before internet forums and being a bandwagon fan came into the equation.

On a somewhat related note does the ban bet TheOcean lost apply to this board too?

I don't know when I started liking "soccer". I was a typical American and never liked it, but a funny thing happened when the NBA and MLB became unwatchable to me and around that time we started getting a lot more games on TV. I gravitated toward Liverpool because of Gerrard, Anfield and the history of the club. The last five years I have easily watched more "football" than any other sport. I guess that makes me a bandwagon fan of not just Pool but of the sport. To this day I have absolutely nobody that I know that understands my fascination with the game or the history of it, they all just think it's boring. If that makes me a bandwagon fan then so be it, everybody I know thinks I'm strange for loving it so much anyway.

This might be the worst thread in the history of this wonderful board. Let's not debate this anymore because it's fricking stupid.

Wouldn't it just take its place alongside the rest of the bi-weekly bandwagon argument threads?
