Little intense of a ban to me. He definitely whacked him intentionally but there is no way a back handed slap hurt that much. Red card? Yes. 2 matches? Yes. 4 matches? eh, no.

Standard's three for violent conduct

It's not about the effect

Context is everything.

Context is going to be ignored in violent conduct, unless you did something especially heinous. It's really not that hard to refrain from smacking people.

Yeah, Ramires went out of his way to hit someone in the face. That is violent conduct. He had a choice to either A. Not hit him or B. Hit him. Pretty easy 3+ match ban honestly, seeing as it's off the ball.

I thought it was going to be 3 all along, a little surprised they slapped on that extra game, but it was blatant, and definitely deserving of at least 3

It was blatant but you can hurt someone much worse by using your legs and disguising it as a normal course of the play.

Yes it was deliberate, but I just found the reaction by Larsson overplayed.

I am trying to take into account the actual effect it has in inflicting damage as one of the components. I know it doesn't matter in terms of how the rules are written, but it is a huge factor in the overall 'dirtiness' of the play. I presume my opinion will be quite different than most of the board.

Not his first red this season for shitbag type stuff. I am glad he got four matches. I am a Chelsea fan and I think we are better without him. Besides, he deserved at least four IMO.

He did. It was just a bitch Brazilian move. They really are insufferable.

1. Ramires is stupid.

2. So is this suspension.

The FA's willingness, even eagerness, to retro suspend for something like this and take zero stance with retro bans for diving is absolutely pathetic.

...and those incidents are punished accordingly, especially if you write about how you totally decided to do it before the game in your autobiography.

It's really not. This isn't hockey. Violent conduct is something that's considered completely unacceptable by virtually everyone in the game. No one in the game will condone it, and very few opponents will expect it when it happens making it a huge bitch move and one of the dirtiest things you can do on the field. It's punished severely because:

1. It doesn't belong in the game
2. It's completely avoidable. There's really no excuse for it

Ok, then why doesn't this logic apply to blatant diving and simulation?

It's also retro punishable because the ref didn't see it/write it up in his post-game report... if he had and decided not to take action during the case of the match, it wouldn't have been reviewable/punishable...

I'd imagine in most cases, diving/simulation, the ref has observed and ruled on the field by issuing a foul(pk) or not

I still say he should be suspended. As for diving etc. I say suspend them as well.

This just increases the level of absurdity of the whole thing.

Who cares what the ref sees or didn't see? If something happens it happens. Just because a ref chooses to ignore, doesn't see clearly enough, or have the courage to call a blatant dive (Clattenburg) doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Suspension? Sure, a game would suffice.

4 is just stupid. Though totally expected from this sport.

It would have to be longer than these suspensions you want for diving.

In soccer land of course, diving is much more reprehensible offense.
