If you take a snapshot picture of the situation I get this. But if anyone thinks Liverpool will not be back in the picture soon they're kidding themselves. It might not be a 75% better chance to play, but our odds are certainly better than 10%.
You have to look at the bigger picture. Fulham have basically 0 chance of playing in the CL. Liverpool, with a good season, could at least be in contention. I wouldn't call that just 10%.

As with all transfers these things tend to drag out.

I don't see Pool getting back in the CL this season. It'll take two or three years...and Deuce isn't getting any younger.
If Liverpool is the best club that offered for him, then I can see why he would go. Liverpool will always be a step up from Fulham, no matter what the recent records are.

If this it true, I could live with it. Better than Arsenal or Chelsea (due to my own personal bias). Not sure if this is the best move for him professionally or not. Time will tell. I think it could work out better than a lot of people on here are saying, though. I think much of it depends on the team's style going forward with Rodgers at the helm.

Oh, no doubt Pool has a better chance at being in the CL than Fulham. If Dempsey moves to Pool though I don't see him ever playing CL ball before his career ends or he moves to the MLS.

How many years do you think he has left? If he stayed for 5 years, you really don't see him playing CL football at any point therein?

You're actually making a comparison to Leeds? On one hand we have a club who have won the CL in this last decade, and have been regular CL participants until just 4 years ago when we finished 2nd in EPL. On the other hand you have a club who haven't played in Premiership in a decade.
If you can't realize that LFC are closer to CL competition than you give them credit for, then I don't know what to tell you. Things are not dire at Anfield right now.

It's hard to say. It's difficult to predict how the top teams will fare over the next five years. I think Dempsey can do another five years in the PL (since he started his pro career later than most players) which would put him at 34. It's a bit old and he would likely be a bit player for whatever team he was with.
Over the course of 5 years could Liverpool get back in the top 4? Sure, why not. But look at who they have to beat out- Chelsea, ManU, and Man City, who all have infinite budgets, and Arsenal, Tottenham (both of whom are competitive year in and year out), and Newcastle (who have shown they can be competitive as well).

I didn't compare you to Leeds, I stated the point that history doesn't count for jack diddly, and that's most of what you have over Fulham RIGHT NOW.
