I also never said that Mexico isn't a rival. I just think some of the "hate" is manufactured through stories and legend, a way to get even more fired up.That is ok with me, too. Kind of like the mythical assaults on grandmothers and perceived acts of disrespect that Auburn fans were so fond of coming up with in the early 2000's to feel more hatred towards LSU when they lost.... and vice versa.

I got sucker-punched in the back of the head by a Mexican at the US-Mexico friendly in Philly while leaving a few years ago. Why? Because we drew with them late and I was the first guy wearing US stuff that he came across.

I've never been, and it's one of the few places I'm not willing to go. It is bad.

This is what they do to players, while on TV. Think what they do to fans when the camera isn't on.

Yeah, they throw batteries, rocks, cups, bottles, beer, piss (seriously), etc. and that's only because they can't physically get to you.

One is routine, the other was a one time thing (I'm a Braves fan and can't defend that even though I still have nightmares of that call frick).

Note: I've been to the Eternal Derby, but I wouldn't dream of going to Azteca.

For all those people trying to connect it with American sports...

This isn't some mythical forced rivalry. This isn't something that happened 100 years ago that one side hangs on to. It's pure and it's real for those of us that have watched the Dos a Cero games for over a decade, watched Rafa Marquez be Rafa Marquez, driven 20 hours in the middle of the week to Columbus just to be able to watch us beat their asses in person, and have talked to and watched the countless videos of people that took on Azteca.

I was rooting for Brasil but it did piss me off those frickers were cheering hard for Ghana yesterday.

The only time they care about us is when we are importing shite to keep their country running.

Why would we not pull for our CONCACAF brothers? We want CONCACAF to gain respect world wide, that gets our players respect and exposure. It is like two siblings who fight tooth and nail, but always pull for each other.

Sorry dude, but SEC mentality does not apply to international soccer. If the US is capable of rising to new heights and beating traditional European and South American powers, it will have nothing to do with the success of CONCACAF.

CONCACAF, to us, is nothing more than a means to get to the World Cup, and to an extent, the Confederations Cup. I couldn't give less of a shite how Mexico and Costa Rica do, because it's not a league mentality in international soccer, it's a country mentality. If WE want respect, WE have to earn it. English fans (for example) won't give us credit just because Mexico does good.

frick Mexico. Mexico is generally a country full of ugly people.
