I'm very new on the soccer board, so I hope this topic hasn't already been beaten to death. Anyway, it is a known fact that the MLS is not on par with say Serie A or La Liga but I don't understand why people decide not to watch it because of this. Most MLS games I've watched have been full of attacking, fast-paced soccer that is every bit as fun to watch as any other league in the world. So what if the talent level is not quite there yet? There are tons of countries that don't have the most talent filled soccer leagues in the world (Mexico, Argentina, Turkey, etc) yet still have hundreds of thousands of die hard fans. The more people watch MLS the better it will get.

I think it's kind of a shame that people in the US pay attention to the English league more than our own.

I don't think the MLS sucks at all. Sure it's not on par with EPL and whatnot but it's still good. I try to watch it when it's on but I find I have trouble really catching on to it because I don't have a team to support.

If New Orleans had an MLS team you can bet I'd be all over it.

I've never been a big MLS fan, but I really want to make a bigger commitment to it. I just need to figure out who to pull for.

I'm the same way. I just wish there was a team somewhere in the southeast.

College football isn't as good as pro football, yet we still watch.

High school football isn't as good as college football, yet we still watch.

I don't have a favorite team in the MLS, but I love watching it. Things get really fun around CONCACAF Champions League time. It is so easy rooting for 4-5(even Toronto) teams in that competition. Tournament starts July 31

Do you also not understand why people don't watch the MAC or the SunBelt?

So is the WAC or the Arena Football League.

People want to watch the best.

They also have been soccer fans for generations and have little to no other competition from other sports/leagues.

Catch-22.

Look it would be awesome if the MLS were a better league and got tons of support and if Atlanta got a team I would go to tons of games. However, you have to be pretty obtuse to not be able to fathom why people don't go crazy for it outside of a few niche markets.

You forgot "The Chelsea Football Club, CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE, does not play in the MLS so I shall pay it no attention" on your list.

MLS is fun to watch. However, if people want to watch EPL replays for the next month and a half instead of watching exciting live soccer, then have at it.

To whoever was saying "the quality is just too poor" (actually.... I think it was the jackass in this thread), must not have watched the KC-Chicago game from last night.

Great set pieces from Zusi, good technical skill from the Chicago front line, phenomenal speed and physical play from both teams, great goalkeeping from both teams and Bunbury's turn in stoppage time was just foolishness.

That was a great game last night. GREAT game.

"The quality is too poor" line smacks of somebody that watched a half of a DC United game on ABC in 2001 and gave up on it.

I'm really looking forward to the Phi-Hou and SJ-LA games tonight.

It's a cop-out of epic proportions. I took a chance on the league two years ago and have been hooked.

Dude nobody is saying it's a bunch of donkeys running around out there but it is so far below the top European leagues. It's hard to go from watching Chelsea, Man U, Spurs, Arsenal, City, Newcastle, Real, Barca, Juve, AC, Inter, Bayern etc... to watching Sporting KC vs. Real Salt Lake. It's just not the same thing. A weak Man Utd lineup beat the MLS All Stars 4-0 last year.

It doesn't matter. Some people will watch it and nit-pick bad plays, focus on them, and conclude that the quality sucks and is not good enough for their discerning eyes.

I think a lot of it has to do with you not having a local team.

I rarely watched the MLS until I moved to Houston. Now I almost never miss a game.

So, you only watch the top teams?

You don't actually enjoy THE GAME?

Sounds like a shitty existence.

I have a hard time getting into MLS... I do watch games here and there, but don't follow it regularly...

Like someone said above, I think I would really get behind it if I lived in a city with a team

You could always watch for the American internationals.

(Cameron, Wondolowski , Donovan, the future of American goalkeeping, etc.)
