Reporting live from BBVA Compass Stadium..

I fricking love MLS

And I don't get people who say "they can't get into it because they don't have a team to support." You managed to pick a team halfway across the world, why can't you pick a MLS team?

Yeah, I was just thinking that.

So, you only watch the top teams?

You don't actually enjoy THE GAME?

Sounds like a shitty existence.

What's shitty is watching a meaningless game pitting say Wigan vs. West Brom. I wouldn't watch ULL play ULM in football either or the Timberwolves vs. Wizards etc...

You could always watch for the American internationals.

This is another problem, so many Americans play overseas so even this is not really a good selling point.

The guy is just looking for reasons not to watch. I could find a reason not to anything if I was determined enough. No real reason to argue with him.

What I said was that outside of Baton Rouge almost nobody watches college baseball and that high school football is much more popular. Both of which are pretty indisputable.

So, what makes MLS games meaningless?

That Seattle - Portland game last weekend didn't look meaningless to me.

Is a Tottenham - Aston Villa game meaningless? A Texas - Missouri football game?

You sound like a frontrunning bandwagoner to me. Lemme guess? Miami Heat fan?

Hold on, let me pull up some stats from an article I wrote this week...

...

quote:

- Five members of the current USMNT roster (Kyle Beckerman, Geoff Cameron, Landon Donovan, Nick Rimando and Chris Wondolowski) are attached to MLS clubs. - Jurgen Klinsmann has called-up 19 different MLSers in the past 12 months, used mostly in friendlies and the 2011 Gold Cup. - Ten members of the current USMNT started their professional careers in MLS, and have since moved on to higher profile leagues around the world. Oguchi Onyewu, Edgar Castillo, Steve Cherundolo, Joe Corona, Jermaine Jones, José Francisco Torres and Terrance Boyd make up the list of players who have never played in MLS. - The future of the USMNT, the U-23 team, had 14 MLSers on its 20-man Olympic Qualifying team. There were 18 more from the league called up during this last cycle.

I think I'm jumping on the Sporting KC bandwagon.

Generally no because currently Tottenham generally has a chance to contend for something as does Texas most years. If Texas and Missouri play and both teams are 6-3 or Spurs and Villa play late in the season with both teams at midtable then yes those games are meaningless unless you are a fan of one of those teams.

Excellent choice. Contender, sweet unis, rabid fanbase, some young studs (Zusi, Sapong, Kamara).

Tottenham and Aston Villa probably ain't going to win the UCL = meaningless

Texas and Missouri definitely aren't going to win the Super Bowl = meaningless

Unfortunately that fact is not really helping your argument.

Houston - Bobby Boswell , Geoff Cameron, Brad Davis, Colin Clark, Brian Ching (and Tally Hall probably will make an appearance eventually)

Philadelphia - Sheanon Williams, Brian Carroll, Freddy Adu, Chris Albright (and Okugo and MacMath will probably be capped at some point)

That's 10 current or former US internationals playing in ONE game. Tell me again why an American soccer fan shouldn't watch MLS?

How? These guys are the future of the USMNT, and you need to know how they're doing at a club level.

Unless you're not a fan of The Yanks because they aren't the best.

What's your thoughts on Philly? I just bought their jersey from Ross yesterday. I guess i'm trying to decide between them and KC.
