Landon Donovan is out and Omar Gonzalez is in on the U.S. men’s national team squad for upcoming friendlies at Scotland and Austria, a Los Angeles source tells SI.com.

Klinsmann and Donovan have a very strange relationship.

I understand if Jurgen wants to show the younger guys that he's a no nonsense kind of coach and that he wants things done a certain way. But Donovan is a vet and the face of U.S. soccer. Just let him do what he wants (within reason) and keep him happy. He's been a staple of the team since '02. There's no much more he can learn from going on loan although I would like him to get some time with a team in an upper tier league.

I just saw on twitter somewhere that Donovan is resting his ankle, and that's why he didn't get called in

Yeah I don't think he was 100% in the playoffs. Oh well always the winter camp.

The conspiracy theories are much more fun.

I think this goes all the way back to Bayern...

Maybe Juergen thinks that Landon doesn't show him enough appreciation for being the only fricking person who wanted him at Bayern

I would like an explanation from Klinsmann but at this point I assume Donovan's injured or needs to rest, and that Klinsmann is not a madman.

He always does a QnA with ussoccer.com after every roster comes out, so I'm sure one of the questions will be about Landy.

He's resting his ankle I'm pretty sure. He said he needed like 6 weeks for it to be completely healed and he's just been playing constantly lately.

No one still in MLS Playoffs was selected, which is good, but I would have loved to see Zusi and Besler. They need some rest though.
