My mom is so confused why Balotelli gets to play for Manchester (in England) but doesn't play for England lol. I'm just glad she's getting into soccer. I know that's how much of a noob I was a few years ago.

England better start worrying about netting goals or even threatening to if they want to mean anything in 2014. Outside of being a Rooney fan and enjoying Welbeck's incredible hair, England is just disappointing to watch. I'm just glad that my bet that Germany would go further than England to a friend across the pond is netting me a few bucks.
As for Rooney, he has a little bit of an excuse with his only real playing time so far was against a Czech Republic team. Ashley Young, on the other hand, looked like absolute shite.

England has been pretty much a disappointment for the last 6-8 years.
Every major tournament we hear about all of their talent, only to have the same results be it losing from penalty kicks, slow pace, not enough pressure on the final third, and in general no creativity on the attack.
Rooney is good in the premier league, but when he faces true international competition, more often than not, he completely disappears.

I thought Young had one good game (although I can't remember if it was against Sweden or Ukraine), but other than that he was bad and today he was just terrible. Sometimes you'll see a wide player just not really get into the game, but it wasn't like he just had a quiet game, he was actively terrible.

What I cannot comprehend is why Theo did not start.
He has much more speed than Milner, and could have reeked havoc on Italy's left side, not allow ing them to push forward and make runs.
Milner is to England what Bornstein is to us.

my thinking is Roy likes Milner's D and passing. I think he only wants one speedy winger and sees Theo as being better off the bench. Fwiw, Milner covered more ground than any England player in one of the games.

The biggest joke of all is the "At least England fought hard and defended well" BS.
They got lucky as hell that France, Sweden, Ukraine, and Italy capitalized on a combined 3 of their goal scoring chances, which, if I had to estimate, was probably in the 20-30 range

For all the crap they get they had pretty much as many real chances as Italy. Unless you count shooting wildly from 25 yards a good chance. Rooneyx2, Young, Johnson, Welbeck all had very good chances to score.
They only conceded one goal all tournament that can be blamed on the defense the other came off a lucky deflection and a shot from outside the box that beat Joe Hart at his near post. Moral victory sure but England did what they needed to do to give themselves a chance and couldn't come through in the lottery.

No it's Italy not executing. England played worse than normal but to say they weren't playing good defense and it was all luck is craziness.
