re: OFFICIAL Liverpool FC 2014-2015 Season Long Thread

My nightmare scenario -
Lose to Arsenal for the FA cup, finish 6th, and still have to to to Europa
I cannot re-iterate enough - I want nothing to do with Europa. When is the last time an EPL team that had to play in Europa from the start of the season became a top 4 team?? It doesn't happen often.
That Thursday-Sunday pairing is terrible. Ask Spurs how much it has helped them break into the top 4? My only consolation will be if we play a completely different XI for Europa games.
So, if you'll forgive my long-look at the transition to next season -
Its time to cut Balo loose. Hate to do it, but if we aren't going to play him, he needs to go. Wages are way too high for someone that never starts and hardly plays. He either has it or he doesn't for what Rogers needs to do.
Sterling staying or going is obviously a big question mark hanging over our off-season.
Can is likely to midfield. That means three decision points -
Formation - I think we need to be able to switch between a 3-4-1-2, 4-3-3-, and diamond both from game to game and within a game. We have the players to do that. Several guys are very versatiles, like Sterling, Hendo, etc.
We need to decide if Wisdom, Llori etc can come in and play CB. Toure should not be resigned. We need at least two CBs, if not a third. Those two guys coming back from loan may be able to do it, but I have my doubts either is ready to play.
Second decision point - is Lucas, Can, Henderson, and Allen a good enough midfield both in terms of quality and depth? Can they perform the roles well enough? I still think we need one more here, and would prefer someone on the cusp of world class.
Out wide, I think Moreno is one of the few that was not playing better in the switch to the 3-4-2-1. He's been bad. He looks lost between his responsibilities, like he's only capable of thinking of one thing at a time and turns off the other side of his brain. We have plenty for a four man back line, but if we will be playing a decent bit of 3 CB, I think we'll need another guy here who can be better at both ends.
With Cou and Lallana, I think attacking midfield is covered. Hendo can play there two, if necessary.
At forward, Sterling, Studge, Ings (assuming we get him) and Origi is a decent number - would love one more of a high high quality, but doubtful without CL.
Long story short - 3 years into BR, we'll still be facing lots of decision points, have a lot of needs, and unless Sterling goes for Suarez type money, I don't see us having the funds to fill them. That makes a move like Ings for 3-4 million a good risk and move.

Yeah, I'll have to see how they look on the players themselves, but it seems that soccer shorts are trending towards basketball shorts in general.

I agreed until the details for the new Europa TV deal came out. Next year the new TV deal will award almost 70% of what of Champions League gives. It's still not ideal, especially with the schedule, but it isn't as awful as it's been in the past.

Playing in Europe is playing in Europe saying you don't want to is pathetic.

Especially after seeing City fall again today, I think we aren't out of a top 4 slot at all. Unsure of the schedule differences between us, Southampton, and City, but it certainly can't be ruled out as of yet.

United has the hardest run in. City could drop 4 points but they really don't have anyone left to play that's worth a damn.

yeah, we really needed to have City win today...

I'm not so sure City will find any kind of form... If we are going to take a top four spot, I think it will be from them. No way we catch United the way they are playing.

City has an easier schedule than United here on out... United dropping this one, along with possibly to Chelsea, along with us winning out would put us in 4th...

I get that part... Wasn't arguing the point. Just saying I don't see Man U losing except for maybe to Chelsea, but Man City has been playing shamefully as of late. They have a better chance of dropping enough points for us to usurp their position. Strictly my opinion though.

Here we go boys, just when I was reserved to the fact that we weren't going to finish in the Top Four, here comes City completely mailing it in. So now I have to stress out all over again about the home stretch but it's good to be there at least instead of broke and in seventh place. Now if we can just get a infusion of energy, creativeness and scoring from somebody like Balotelli we can storm into Europe again.................Sorry Byrd I kid only because I care.

I'm with you. It's all about form, right? Well Utd looks unstoppable right now, and City is in shambles. Our best chance for 4th is for City to continue their downward trend.

City still have Yids, S'hampton, and Swans. We'll see what happens. Only really need them to lose to one. They'll draw again somewhere else. I guess its possible.
On another note, when does Ibe come back?

My understanding is that Ibe should be fit for today's match.

City is a wreck right now. Those aging legs have given out.
It would appear they are fricked for the foreseeable future honestly.

You guys talking about Balo or Ibe? I was half needling Byrd about Balo since we have beaten that into the ground. The return of Ibe has me excited though.

I want us to drill these guys today. If Ibe plays, it happens. Mainly because I am sick of watching us struggle these past few weeks.
I have it recording, so I have to wait until around 7 central time to watch it.

I'm a lot less optimistic about top 4 than a lot of you I guess, but I'm ok with it.
Considering where we started this season, we made a big push, but I think we're getting tired.
Hopefully we hang on to our young core and they keep getting better. As much as we want to keep buying, I think that will be the key. Our young guys keep improving together, then we buy smart and integrate a couple pieces here and there.
But frick it lets win out and make another late top 4 push anyway

Take the three points today and y'all are only 4 back from City. Plenty of time to catch them.
