I think our pool of young players has me pretty excited for 2018. If we get into a more favorable group that time around maybe big things can happen

Almost every team is suspect in certain areas. The question is who can limit the mistakes and who will the soccer gods smile upon.

That's true about there being no team that looks unbeatable or even a clear favorite, leave Brazil's home field advantage.
However, history has shown that the soccer gods usually help those teams with a Zidane, Vieri and Henry, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Ronaldo, Pirlo, Cannavaro and Totti or Xavi and Iniesta helping themselves.

we are a ways off but we are a ways improved.
The fact that we legitimately thought we have a shot at beating one of the pre tourny favorites today was a telling sign of how far we have come

We are going to have chances to score against Belgium, with or without Jozy. Belgium is a lot closer to Portugal than Germany at this stage in their current strong generation's development.

One of the only things I really disagree with. We ain't winning a world cup in 2014. The game today isn't be all end all since the USA was coming off an emotional ending to a game in the rainforest with a day less rest, but Germany was on another planet for most of that game. Their ball movement was leaps and bounds better, and there always seemed to be a guy out wide in space. They didn't capitalize very often (a lot due to Howard playing well and our back 4 playing pretty well overall), but they created a lot.
I say all that, but I guess we could win, since a game like yesterday can happen, and as the US showed at the very end, all you need is 1 lucky bounce or one good counterattack.
I just give us about a 3% chance

TV Ratings are crazy and many folks are watching in big parks, bars, etc. We have turned the corner.
US-Portugal, which drew a 9.6 household rating (or the percentage of households turned into the match) and averaged 18.22 million viewers on ESPN. It was the most-viewed program — excluding the NFL and college football — in ESPN’s history. And another 6.5 million viewers tuned in on Univision.
TV Ratings are crazy and many folks are watching in big parks, bars, etc. We have turned the corner.

There's a big leap from where we were yesterday to where Germany was yesterday. That's not a difference that teams are typically able to overcome for the duration of the tournament, but I didn't think we were getting out of the group either, so I hope I'm wrong again

Mainly what I'm saying, but there are some built in, LEGIT, excuses, in the rainforest, 1 less day rest, Altidore injury etc. But overall, they looked to be head and shoulders better than us at almost every position
