Its an apples to oranges comparison though
MLS has to compete with so many leagues for players when the NHL and esp the NFL don't.
With those NHL/NFL expansion you are getting a bunch of guys with plenty of experience. LV got 30 NHL quality players
STL got 5 dudes and it was good luck figuring out the rest
The only recent example of anything close to this (30+ years ago) in the European game was when FC Kaiserslautern, won the Bundesliga 2 and then won the Bundesliga the next year

thats also not true
MLS struggles to support 2 franchises in the NYC area
Some of the largest MLS markets have the worst attendance
yet you have cities around the world that pack stadiums for multiple teams
We have seen cities like Wigan, Stoke and Bolton pack EPL matches and support it like crazy.

I can’t remember who said this but someone brought up a good point that the cities with the best MLS attendances outside of cascadia are places with a lot of transplants. They can root for a team in their new town without going against whatever team they grew up with like they would in other sports.

MLS suffers from lack of mainstream support and eyeballs on the pitch.

Another serious question:
Does England have other sports league that are comparable to NFL. College football. NBA. MLB. NHL. That’s a lot of competition for MLS.
I know rugby, darts and cricket are popular in England.
And the continent has basketball, hockey and handball
But Is there anything close to a country having as many different popular sports teams as USA. Or take Europe as a whole(since USA is so large).
Does England have other sports league that are comparable to NFL. College football. NBA. MLB. NHL. That’s a lot of competition for MLS.

No and it’s not particularly close, either. Sports take a bigger cultural role in the US than any other country. Even in England where footy support is rabid there’s still a ton of even regular joes who don’t care at all about it.

Lots of offense and poorer defense is a model that works fine in the Netherlands and leads to higher scoring games. I know it irks you but it doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Just because you play one new youngster a couple times a year doesn’t mean it’s bearing fruit
I know you are being super optimistic but bearing fruit is turning out quality players who actually improve the quality of the league
The only academy that has even been close to this and has fielded an XI with a ton of their own players is FC Dallas

Yea overall we care about more sports per person
While over there most people focus on one sports and are absolutely bat shite crazy about it. Their level of fanaticism on average is much higher than ours. The willingness to got to matches and invest time and money.
The one nation that is probably unmatched in terms of how many people on average are crazy about multiple sports and participation is Australia
It’s their culture, but it makes sense when almost all their population lives near the water with ideal weather conditions year round to be outside.

You want academy players to be locked in MLS best 11 from the get go or something? What’s your barometer for “bearing fruit?” If it’s making a difference you are discounting guys like Tyler Adams, Brendan Aaronson, Slonina, Gutierrez, Caleb Wiley, John Tolkien, Paredes, Owen Wolff, Noel Buck, Obed Vargas, Aidan Morris, Darren Yapi, LA galaxy, RSL, Philly, and Dallas’ academy products (now San Jose even), the Toronto kids, etc. All of these guys raise the floor of the league, even if it means coming off the bench (like you mention, depth is a problem and these kids improve that, too).
Many academies are less than ten years old so I’m not sure what exactly you expect from them at this point (also a reason for so many on this list being 17-20). Give it another 3-5 years and the list is just going to get longer and longer, even by your own limited definition of “bearing fruit.” You know the really good kids get scooped up by European clubs which affects the quality you speak of.
