Mexico got the first game of group play; Canada got the first game of the knockout round

The script has been written. You would think this is FIFA disrespecting the Greatest Country in the World, the United States of America by letting Canada’s 51st state arse have center stage on this beautiful Sunday. However, snubbing the Land of the Free was not the intention. It has been written in stone that the Back to Back World War Champs will be center stage for the LAST game of the tournament, when Team USA plays for all the Tostitos in the shadow of the Greatest City in the World New York. Whichever poverty nation has the misfortune of facing our American Heroes right outside of America’s Greatest City better be ready to STEDB. I fully anticipate President Donald J. Trump and THE JUDGE to present the game ball, giving the American Eagles all the motivation to believe they can win, which they will. We comin’, and we ain’t backin’ down!
EDIT: downvoters are America hating cucks that voted for Kamala.

I highly doubt the U.S. was eager to open up the knockout stage on Sunday, after playing on Thursday.
Today was a rest day for the other 30 teams remaining, while two joke squads without a chance of advancing very far played a match. The real tournament resumes on Monday.

There is no significance to playing in the first knockout game, other than possibly getting less rest than all the other teams. You are dumb.

Oh I am a fan, but I also know our team is comparable to a team like Boise State in football, and Boise doesn’t beat the big boys.. well I guess they do sometimes when they complete the hook n ladder and statue of liberty plays..

"Indiana doesn't beat the big boys. Sometimes they'll upset a ranked team, but not a Top Ten. They'll never win anything significant. That's just being realistic about their place in the sport."
The fact that anyone can say what you said with such absolutism after what we all witnessed this year is absurd. Before this season, everybody on Earth would have said that Boise State had a better chance of winning the CFP than the worst team in CFB history.
Maybe try thinking about the USMNT being comparable to Indiana, and have a little hope.
I've watched the New Orleans Saints win a Superbowl. And they did it with a core group of players that nobody else in the NFL wanted. A team made up of vagabonds and rejects, told they weren't good enough to play in the league. Trust me when I tell you that nothing is impossible in Sports.
Nobody believes that the USMNT can do it. They proclaim that they don't belong on the field with UEFA teams and can't compete at such a high level as the premier European Leagues.
They can and they do.
Athletes with a chip on their shoulder and a desire to prove their doubters are wrong about them are capable of achieving Greatness. When others underestimate you, they never see you coming.

If you think about it the USMNT is comparable to Texas A&M football.
Made a semi final in the 30s, largely irrelevant for most of the 20th century, gotten significantly better lately, but still hasn’t won anything. Has resources that is the envy of the most of the rest of the sport but still can’t get over the hump. Questionable sexual preferences of its most famous group of supporters. Seemingly always choke in the biggest moments. Always expecting to be taken seriously and to be considered title contenders as soon as something goes their way.
After typing this out I’m starting to feel way worse about Wednesday.
ETA: Please ignore all that. I like this video where we’re instead compared to Oregon and we’re just waiting to break through…
YouTube video Of all World Cup teams as their CFB equivalents

You are confusing me for a futbol fan.. I watch the World Cup, but I’ll barely watch over the next 4 years.. I truly don’t know if we are any good.
As for the Indiana reference.. I’m guessing they wouldn’t be as good if they could only recruit from inside their own state.
Other teams have freaks like Tyreek Hill playing soccer.. like Lebron.. etc etc
Our best athletes don’t play soccer. If we want to get better at soccer, that’s got to change.

Every four years, somebody who really doesn't understand soccer has this dumb take. A great soccer player is not great simply because they are "freaks" like you say. Messi, the GOAT, is 5' 7". He's not the greatest because of his physicality.
The U.S. talent problem has always been because of our youth soccer programs being arse backwards compared to how things are done in Europe. It has improved though over the last 10-15 years.

Messi’s footwork is not normal.. that requires a shite ton of athletic genes and even more practice.. yes, his soccer IQ is off the charts too..
Athletic freaks comes in all shapes and sizes.. and each have different skillsets.. Hill is twitchy like Doku, Lebron is a lab experiment like Ronaldo, Kelce is an athletic giant like Haaland… Manny Pacquiao mighta been good like Messi if he played soccer..
All I’m saying is that other countries best athletes mostly want to play soccer.. that isn’t true here.

Yes, it takes more than just athletic gifts.. but that is true regardless of who shows up at tryouts.. All else equal, you’d rather start with a freak than not.. either way, they have to want it and dedicate their life to it

Then why did you feel the need to state your opinion on the caliber of the team?

Alabama wouldn't have been a dynasty if they could only recruit within their own state.
The hell does that have to do with anything?

I'm going to say this as plainly as I can do it will hopefully register in the minds of everyone who regurgitates this tired argument: every athlete you gave as an example would suck at professional level soccer.
