I agree that this team looks better.

However, this is right in line with the type "it's only about us" English pundit/fan thinking that makes it so entertaining to watch them lose.

Considering that:

Italy just outplayed England without their arguably brightest young attacking star Zaniolo, a huge downgrade in replacing injured Spinazzola with Emerson and also -- to complete the AS Roma hospital ward -- Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Belgium and Spain also both outplayed Italy for a lot more stretches of those matches than England.

Not to even mention that France still has the highest ceiling of any European NT if they get their tactics better and Germany will inevitably bounce back.

I wouldn't ink my "it's coming home" tattoo even if Southgate improves the tactics a bit.

Chiesa is only a year older than Zaniolo but I get your point.

England won’t be able to “Greece” its way to the finals next year. I have a feeling it’s going to be a weird arse tournament.

And what’s Saka’s PK history? There is none.

Southgate blew it and Grealish/Sterling should have absolutely been adamant in taking one of those PKs.

Rumors that Pickford would have been their 6th PK taker? WTF

Yesterday you blamed Sterling for not taking the kick

Well England had arguably three of their brightest young attacking stars sitting on the bench doing frick all.

But you're right France still has the best talent.

Chiesa really had a coming out party the past couple of weeks. He's been one of my favorite young players for a while.

I wish he would have stayed at Fiorentina a bit longer because he was so electric to watch on counters and 1 v 3 when they played stronger teams. Chiesa was single-handedly responsible for a 5 goal outburst against Roma a couple of years ago in a match where Roma really controlled the game. One of the more impressive matches I've ever seen a player have.

That said, Zaniolo has been the slightly more coveted of the two players and one Mancini had relied on a bit more for the NT until his injury, mainly because of the size/power dimension he brings in directly carrying the ball through traffic for what's otherwise a very lightweight midfield/attack.

I agree that England has more talent than usual and room for significant improvement.

Was really just making the point with Italy's key missing players that other countries who are currently stronger aren't maxed out in their room for improvement and just waiting for England to pass them if they simply tweak their tactics a bit.

Are you not able to comprehend the idea that multiple people can carry the blame?

Coming out if people weren’t paying attention to Série A this year. He was fantastic for Juve and I expected he would do well this tournament.

Wasn’t England the betting favorites for this tournament, even above France?

Think it’s fair to say this is the sentiment because not many people pay attention to Serie A

He started off slow at the beginning of the campaign but as the season progressed he really started to flourish.

My book had France as the favorites at +400 and England second at +450
