Vlaar first for Netherlands. Messi first for Argentina. Seems legit.

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal says two of his players refused to take the first penalty in their World Cup semi-final shootout defeat by Argentina.

Defender Ron Vlaar stepped up but Sergio Romero saved his kick. Argentina went on to win the shootout 4-2 and will face Germany in Sunday's final.

"I asked two players to take the first ball before ending up with Vlaar," said new Manchester United boss Van Gaal.
"I thought he was the best player on the pitch so should have confidence."

wow

pretty weak sauce of whoever they were.

I guess they shouldn't worry about making the team next go around.

If this is true then they didn't deserve to win. It's not like they'd have to beat Messi, just beat the keeper

This decision certainly makes a lot more sense now. LvG was dealing with a couple of nervous vaginas out there

Didn't Silva refuse to take one for Brazil? And he was the captain.

And I'm fairly shitty, but I'll take penalties any time.

Hit it hard, hit it wide, if the keeper saves, he saves.
