Yea, that conversation definitely took off in a direction I wasn't willing to follow. Here's my attempt to bring things back into focus. On the TAW weekly podcast, Andy Heaton made an interesting observation...our season, so far, can be defined by 4 goals. Two that we let in (in the second half vs Sunderland at home to open the season and in the second half against Norwich at home several weeks ago). And, two goals that we could not convert (pick any of the wasted chances in the derby vs UTD and again last week at home vs Swansea). 4 draws turn into 4 wins and we're sitting 2nd in the table. As it stands, we're 3 points out of 4th with the next match against a struggling Chelsea side currently sitting in...you guessed it, 4th. Do we have issues that need to be sorted? No doubt. But the sky isn't falling. The present and future are light years from the past 2 years and Kenny has earned more respect than a lot of "fans" are showing. Please don't mistake this post for complacency, I was just as pissed as anyone that we didn't get at least 7 points from the last 3 matches. But, things set up very nicely for us between now and Jan and our luck around the goal can't get any worse.

The one issue 'Pool needs sorted is sticking to an offensive identity.

Ironically, we don't even seem to need this. We for sure don't have an identity, but that doesn't seem to matter. We are getting great looks at goal and dominating matches. Not to say that it wouldn't help us tremendously. If Suarez had Chicharito's finishing ability, he would have 15 goals this season. It really has been incredible to watch Liverpool get the ball into the box and then seemingly watch every single player miss their shot on goal.

I think you are creating chances because you have good players. Even regulation teams make chances. The only two 'Pool games I have caught are the Norwich game and the Swansea game, and 'Pool was so tentative in the final third despite the fact they had chances to win both games. I realize I don't have the best sampling, but 'Pool needs to choose a way to play, and play it.
I think part of Suarez's problem is that he isn't an out and out striker. Chicharito is a striker who plays off the shoulder of the CB, and also moves in the box to get chances. Suarez is most definitely a support striker, as he has amazing dribbling ability and movement. If 'Pool can figure out a way of teaching Andy Carroll how to help in the build-up play, that will go a long way in freeing Suarez, in my opinion.

No doubt you are correct. I was just pointing out that even without an identity we should be winning these games on sheer opportunities alone. Not to mention we have the quality players to finish goals.
At this point I think we need to give other players more of an opportunity. Bellers, Maxi, Spearing (instead of Adam). Bellers has started 2 games and has scored in both.

He definitely isn't. But he seems to be pretty selfish. Maybe he just doesn't trust the players around him. He is an unbelievable creator but is too quick to pull the trigger himself instead of laying off the pass.

That's interesting. I'm really optimistic about the new ownership group; they seem to be going to into this with a realistic and intelligent plan.
However, as an American who moved and worked in Italy for most of my life, I hope that they're prepared for what they're getting themselves into with the way politics/business works there in general and specifically in regard to Calcio.
It's a fascinating endeavor to say the least but if they can be successful I think one that will be a huge breath of fresh air for Italian football overall, which like most things in Italy, whether for the better or the worse, has been extremely recalcitrant to change.
Any interesting takes?

I dunno, Suarez scored over 40 goals in all competitions at Ajax a couple of seasons ago, I think he's just hit a bad patch in his scoring... He could definitely benefit from a proven strike partner... January will be interesting...

some, I was most interested in the parallels between Italian football and how it's run now, and the state that American owners found PL teams in a decade ago.
Horrible mismanagement, no financial structures in place, shoddy marketing at best, and an abysmal fan experience.
I know very little about Roma and Serie A in general, but I would assume that outside investment (and this was their contention as well) will be good for both in the near future. TV deals have to be revamped and stadiums have to be built for that league to maintain its status among the elite.

Here is a good video of Carroll vs Swansea LINK
He had himself a pretty good game (aside from the dreadful sitter). Very active on and off the ball. Also made several solid defensive tackles. These videos get me excited for the future. Once the cast around him learn how to play off of his little flicks, this team will be fun to watch. He is such a dangerous aerial presence. The long balls are still a little excessive. Too many in lackluster situations. A little more discipline would be fantastic. Multiple times there were crosses sent in to him where he just laid the ball back across goal but nobody was there to hit it home. Need more bodies in the box.

yeah, many sites are reporting...but paying north of 30 million quid for a guy thats going to be thirty next month is an awful lot.
But, if FSG are willing to bite and realize he has no sell on value, he still looks like he has at least 3 years of world class football in him... enough to probably help get us a strong foothold in top 4/CL...

I know its been said repeatedly that our lack of finishing is killing us this year... combine that with this
@OptaJoe
Opta Sports
38 - Liverpool have allowed their opponents fewer shots on target against them than any other team in the Premier League this season. Tight.

If he is difference between 4th and 5th place he pays for himself.

Well, they dicked us on the Mascherano deal, so maybe they'd come off that price to get square. January shall be interesting...

He would be. He is exactly the kind of striker this squad needs. He is a pure scorer. He would have 10+ goals by now.
Suarez is comparable to Messi in their system. Not to mention Carroll would have time to grow and mature under a great striker.
