Well we already seen why they did it

They are pricing out their normal match day going fan. FV on tickets before they even hit the secondary market is more than 5x what they would usually cost from the team.

In all the other major leagues in America you don’t even see that. You FV on playoff tickets might be a little bit more

So wait, you hold MLS against how other American leagues operate and how european leagues operate?

You can't have it both ways.

European football is cheaper to see than MLS

Most I ever paid to see United that wasn’t hospitality was £40ish for about 20 rows back in the stretty end

Also clubs are not allowed to price gouge fans

MLS operates in the same system as other American leagues but other leagues don’t do that shite pricing out fans. Once it hit the secondary market well that’s not on them

But your complaints in the past have been MLS needs to be more like Europe, but now you're complaining that they aren't operating like a league in America.

Again... you can't have it both ways. Just makes you look like a hater no matter what they do.

How do you not understand that hypocrisy?

Bro

Think about what I’m saying. They are not operating like either with their price gouging

What they are doing is not allowed in Europe

And isn’t done in the other franchise system leagues here

$200+ FV for an upper deck ticket you don’t see here

Sure fam

We all are happy Messi is here

Just I think it’s fricked up the core fan base is getting fricked over so people who don’t give a frick about the league or the teams playing get to see him play and then never care about MLS again

We can only hope they take their much needed profits and inject them back into improving their squads, expanding squad sizes, getting rid of foreign players restrictions and raising the salary cap/ ditching DP rules

But the owners are notoriously cheap and bc it’s a franchise system you need the collective on board.

Or... and hear me out here... the core fan base grows.

You know, like it did with Beckham.

Be honest with yourself

You really think the majority of these Messi fans are going to stick around MLS when he leaves

In an already competitive sports landscape here you need star power that is consistent to keep people’s interest who are watching.

And just because a core fan base grows doesn’t mean it’s ok to frick them over.

So you're saying it was a coincidence MLS attendance number exploded for Beckham and not only sustained, but grew, after he left?

You're the one not being honest here.

Beckham was factor but you are also you have to include rapid expansion after that driving overall attendance up and building SSS

Also at that time the availability of watching international soccer was not like it was now. So MLS was a good option for people who wanted to be new into the sport but had heard of Becks

Now it’s much easier to watch every league

You really think those people who just want to see Messi are going to stick around.

Once again just because a core fan base grows does not justify price gouging people in the process

Yeah, you're definitely the one not being intellectually honest here.

If you don't think this is a net positive across the board for the league, I don't know what to tell you. MLS will be in a better spot from where it is now to where it will be whenever Messi hangs it up.

I think the entire point of this discussion went over your head or you chose to shift talking points. When you knew my point was valid.

Yes Messi is net positive for league exposure but that wasn’t my point

I was talking about fricking over regular match day fans bc people who will never come back want to see Messi

The thing is tho Messi has been planning to retire in Miami for years. He has a lot of real estate in the area. This was happening no matter what. Winning La Copa y Copa Mundial? Done deal

PEAK SCH move right here

Ignores the counter arguments being thrown at him and then claims others are missing the point.

You really don't get it. Or at the very least, you just refuse to relent because "MLS hater guy" is your SCHtick.

I always hope you'll be better, but you make me sad every time.

You don’t think leagues and teams should look to capture their share of the secondary market?
