Miami’s back line is super terrible. Messi was amazing. Miami’s keeper was the player of the match tho. He made some incredible saves

He really kept them in the match

The Cruz Azul attacking players would just run past them with the ball

Cruz Azul was awful in the final third

They have 2 goals in 4 games counting tonight, they are in line for a terrible LigaMX season.

I’m halfway trolling about it being rigged but a shitty LigaMX team, at home, on a Friday night, that Messi gets a perfectly placed free kick in the 94th minute for the win is almost too good for MLS to be true.

Crazy that their last win before tonight against a non-USL team was a US Open Cup win on May 23.

Yea Miami isn’t good

It’s going to take a ton of looking the other way on the rules for them to have a decent squad

ve wanted to call the MLS bush league for having all the teams pay for Messi, but I knew the whole time the GOAT would pull me in

For the record, this is not the case. The other team are not paying Messi.

MLS has Roster rules that include 3 Designated Players. A DP means that the Owner can pay them any amount they want, but they only count against the salary cap for a fixed amount.

The salary cap portion is paid by the league. Just like every other player. The amount above budget charge for DPs are paid by individual club owners.

So in this case all wage amounts above above 700k are being paid by Miami owner Jorge Mas

Bruv……

They changed the rules for Messi

Miami can’t afford £50 million a season for Messi. His wages are more than a bunch of franchises combined

And they still haven’t cleared up who is going to pay the Apple TV cut to him

Apple is trying to push it on the owners paying that as a well.

This is not true. They did not change a single rule, clubs are allows to pay 3 players any amounts they want.

Messi got a DP slot. That’s just how MLS works. And yes, the multiple billionaire owners of Miami can afford his wages

And yes, they have cleared up Apple. Apple is directly giving him a percentage of international subscriptions.

You new to MLS they change the rules all the time

Miami isn’t paying all the wages. There was a bunch of shite done to make sure he could come here.

My point is you railing against MLS for fudging financials to land Messi is kinda a lame complaint.

They're all doing it.

Most people think it shows the owners don’t actually care about winning or being competitive. Since they were open to paying part of the wages for another teams player.

You are not going to see that anywhere else

The owners did what was best for the league.

You're fricking insane if you don't think Messi coming to MLS doesn't raise the standard.

They're not doing that for Robbie Keane, Kaka or Nani.
