Vs. Japan should be a decent test. I equate them to Wales minus Bale.

These were basically the only WC opponents available to play. Everyone else is busy with nations league. If the opponents bother you blame FIFA for NL ruining our ability to get more competitive friendlies, not USSF.

I'd rather us play a closed door scrimmage than play Saudi Arabia. sorry, not sorry

In what way does that prepare us to play against another country better than a friendly, especially one before a WC where guys on the other team are fighting hard for a spot on the plane?

I guess not. What’s your point then? Fans would flip if we didn’t bother playing pre WC friendlies in favor of closed door intra squad scrimmages.

my point is there are what, 180 something other countries we could play? even if you take out all of the federations playing NL, we could do something else. you're being dense for the sake of being dense

It’s a superiority complex.

That’s rich coming from a guy who wants to play more dudes out of position than Jurgen.

What are you proposing? Besides an intrasquad scrimmage.

Does playing a decent CONMEBOL or CAF team help us prepare for our group? We have a fairly unique draw and I’m not sure you’re going to find much style overlap. Europe being off limits with 2 in our group is shite luck

We’re also making our first appearance in 8 years and our own style isn’t the best proxy for many other teams. What makes you think the Federation had choices to begin with?

It’s on us to snag 2-0+ victories and punch people in the mouth in November if we want to be taken seriously

He also neglects the fact that SA finished ahead of Japan (and Australia) in their WCQ group.

I know Nations League fricks shite up, but kinda annoyed that we have 2 UEFA teams in our group and we won't use any of our 4 friendlies to play against UEFA teams.

again, I don’t know what this has to do with willingly playing the nation who funded and trained the people who killed 3000 of our compatriots

Ok, if we're putting morals into our soccer decisions, why aren't you starting threads on here about how we should boycott the World Cup in Qatar?

Japan killed way more than this. Should we not play them?

Also, rumor has it the Japan game will happen in Dresden. Somebody is WWII trolling if that’s true.

we have direct influence over the former, and very little to do with the latter
