I hate this reasoning, although it's the only explanation for Yedlin and one of two for Green. As I stated before, 2014 is our year. Look at the ages of the players. Look at the significant number of guys who will be 28-32 in Russia who simply failed to live up to the hype and will therefore not be a part of the team ever again, barring a huge shock. I hate the idea of using our best generation of players to basically play dress rehearsal for 2018.

His management of Chandler has been awful. If his plan was to call him up all along, he needed to give this guy a second of playing time (or camp time) before the freaking World Cup send-off games. Now the guy has zero experience playing with any of our guys, and he has gone from being our most promising outside back to being a complete liability.
The guy was flat out the worst player in the Turkey game, not because he allowed Mustafa Pektemek to essentially score the goal, but because he never knew where to play in position as a left back. He was either in the center of defense or way too upfield. The spot where a left back should be was completely empty the entire game.
I was high on Chandler when he was first called up. Unfortunately, he is now a borderline unusable player. Klinsmann seems to see this. We are at a point where we are stuck using Beasley, who is simply too weak to be a left back, but it's our only choice (unless Fab plays there, and I can respect the decision to play him at RB).

You still bring the best possible roster to the World Cup. No exceptions.
Regardless of your opinions on Donovan and how good he would have been, there is no question that he would help the team significantly more than some of the guys we called up.
I also do not understand the post about saying it would cause problems to leave him on the bench. Chicarito comes off the bench now, and he is a cult hero for a rabid fanbase.

I disagree with the first part of your post. Don't think he would be a negative influence as a bench player. The guy is not a petulant, egocentric guy. Very few of our players are, and it's one reason we can be so damn competitive when we have the 25th most expensive roster at the Cup.
The part I bolded is the best articulated reasoning for Klinsmann leaving Donovan off the field for a reason other than a personal grudge or attempt to put his stamp on the team.
It could in fact be his reasoning, but that would mean the guy is taking an unnecessary risk. Blaming a star for other guys being too deferential is some fricked up logic. And it leads us to our current situation where we may have to rely on Bedoya to be our second most offensive player against Portugal, Germany, and Belgium. I don't know why anyone would voluntarily want that.

I would have taken Donovan, but maybe Donovan did not want to go as a sub. Some decisions are mutual. I haven't followed it closely enough to know.
I don't fault Klinsmann. I'm glad he is the coach, I think you will be too if the US advances and pulls a stunna in the knockout round.

Maybe, but we got the goal from one of those players. So far everything is good. And going n with Donovan, I still expected Portugal and Germany to advance. Now we at least make it interesting even with out him. So I can't complain.

Of course he would have. Donovan obviously wanted to start, but he would have been a consummate teammate if he came off the bench.

You could start Zusi or Davis - but neither appear to be 90 minute players above CONCACAF level.
I'll ask - do you think Landon could have made a difference in the Ghana game? Especially after Jozy and Clint were injured?
A lot of the problems that we saw from minute 2 - minute 85:
- wasted set pieces
- poor decisions with the ball in space (when those few opportunities came)
- ineffective counterattacking
- poor link between midfield and forward line (Clint shuffling around after his injury - not that I blame him)
- lack of creative spark/final third passing
Which of these does Landon not help in? Which of these is he not better at than most of our player pool?
In my ideal world, after Jozy's injury, you push Clint up high and have Landon work as the conduit between Clint and the midfield. He'd certainly provide more effort than Clint could (or would) in that role for the last 60 minutes.
