No worries yea pure speculation on my part.

The fuss is because this makes the team noticeably worse and could significantly affect the chance if getting out of the group.

The brazilians said the same thing about leaving ronaldinho out in what 06 but i didn't buy it then and don't necessarily buy it now.

Once again speculating but what if LD had a problem coming off the bench or an issue as to how he fit in the squads vision for this world cup?
Plus as much as i hate to say it, chances are not good to make it out this year no matter how well we play. But there could be a greater future reward by bringing a player like Green,
Yea its tough but it is what it is.

The difference is they at least have world class replacements. We have replacement level players.

I don't really know what all the fuss is about tbh. good players get cut, left off squads, or traded for all kinds of off the field issues. Soccer international and domestic, NFL, MLB, NBA, Dream Team, etc.
I mean its not like the Spurs/ Patriots/ Heat/ Brazil/ Barcalona/ Saints havent let go of players who could contribute

I think the fuss is because we're not Brazil or the Heat.

Leaving Donovan off this squad is like if the Padres would have miraculously made the playoffs in Tony Gwynn's last season and then left him off the post season roster to send a message to their young players or something like that.

I honestly think some folks are too obtuse to make that connection.

"Well, Argentina left off Tevez."

Last I checked - Brad Davis, Chris Wondolowski, Julian Green and Graham Zusi aren't exactly Messi, Di Maria, Higuain and Aguero.

It's much more like McClaren and Golden Balls. Actually, it's exactly like McClaren and Golden Balls.

Then I'm glad I left out the replacing him with their hottest prospect from the Rookie Leagues, who they'd promised the spot if signed with them over the Yankees.

Yea but neither is lazy, old, stubborn, not hungry LD. Or for that matter neither was prime time LD. The drop off between this LD and the others is not as great as you are making it

Michael Wilbon is retarded

Regarding his point about Jurgen saying we are not capable of winning the World Cup - We are not, plain and simple. Unless something really crazy happens, we just don't have the players to do it.

The mindsets of American sports fans and Europeans seem to be different regarding the acceptance of success or failure in a league/tournament. The European mindset seems to be a more realistic one, meaning that a coach or fan is more willing to say things like Jurgen said. Americans are more stubborn about such things, never wanting to admit we don't have a chance before something has started.

The massive gap in talent and money that exists on clubs/national teams across Europe vs the American style of salary cap leagues which create more parity is probably the reason for this dichotomy.

I agree with Wilbon. I don't deny that Jurgy is a good manager, but don't sit there and go through the motions waiting for the next WC. A world cup that we haven't even qualified for yet. A world cup that is in Russia, and lord knows our political situation is going to be with them, and god forbid some arse hat in Washington tells us to boycott.
The best way to promote the growth of soccer in the US is to win as many games as you can. Guess what helps winning? Putting aside differences with top players and bring the best lineup.
ETA: Even if they are at the end of their career. Why would he bring Dempsey or Howard? It's their last WC too.

he does, but the soccer world works a bit differently than the NBA. Kobe is about as big a star now as Ronaldinho, Henry or Beckham were at their prime. No European club would pay their prime salaries for them right now though, heck..... well maybe an American team. Maybe it's an American thing to pay huge sums for players with only a one or two years left.

Both Howard and Dempsey have been playing much better than Donovan.

I can guarantee you they won't care about any political situation. This isn't the 80's or whenever we boycotted the Olympics.

Dempsey was horseshite for Tottenham, Seattle AND Fulham in 2013. You know what that got him?

The captaincy.

I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about the present. Jurgen also said he gave Dempsey the captaincy to motivate him and try to make him less selfish.

Speaking of Dempsey, if he steps up to take a PK in Brazil, I may shoot my TV.

It really is quite amazing how bad he is at PKs. He missed a shite ton when he played at Fulham.

8 goals in 9 games (8 started) in 2014.......

yea thats pretty terrible

and to blame him for his Tottenham struggles are a little short sighted. It was a botched transfer, last minute to a team that didn't really need a player like him for their scheme. Still 8 goals which is pretty similar to the number that Donovan had in 2013 in MLS.

He's definitely on the old side.
He's not lazy, but he flat-out said he wouldn't go as hard in practice as JK wanted him to.
That's pretty stubborn.

A hungry player doesn't let himself get out of shape prior to the World Cup.

Landon was hot garbage at the beginning of the MLS season, and didn't look great against Mexico.

. I hope his fitness and form are such that Jurgen has no choice but to play him. Otherwise, I could see him riding pine, if not sitting home. Is it really likely that JK would not take him?
- me, 4/3/14. I fricking love Landon as a player and have always tried to see both sides of this.

This whole argument is so old, but you guys keep saying plainly untrue things. Acting as if it's a big lie that Landon was out of shape and form leading up to the camp. Come on.

My bad, I thought 2013 and 2014 were different years.

And I'm not sure that comparing Donovan and Dempsey's goal scoring at the club level is an apt comparison. Seattle is best when Dempsey is scoring. LA is best when Donovan is feeding Keane. By the way, how IS Robbie Keane doing this year.

And I think Donovan settled all of our fitness concerns in the beep test. Old, fat and slow don't perform well in that.

But, what the hell do I know? Sounds like you guys have it all figured out.

I thought we were talking about current concerns and fitness considering the WC is this year. Not last year or 4 years ago.

Plus although statistically CD did not have a great year in 2013 he moved to three different team in a calender year. Hard to be a dominate goal scorer with new teammates and getting into new systems. Either way like i said his Tottenham (8 goals) goal scoring was certainly on par with LD at LA (10 goals).

Either way the world including sheep (see above) has realized that LD looked out of shape and not at the top of his game.
He made 0 effort to assuage JK and prove otherwise.
Now we are bitching and wondering why he was left out?

I don't understand
