There's a few pretty good teams they have played along with some really bad ones. still impressive if whole teams are keying on him.

That's an awesome accomplishment. I remember Jason Garey killed it his senior year and had something's like 72 goals. When I was a freshman at uhigh we had a sophomore score 22 in a season and a senior hit 44. But none of that matters when you have to play St. Louis freaking catholic.

Barnes did not say what formation Woodlawn would use Thursday, but he noted it would be different than what his team showed in the playoffs against Holy Cross.

“The new formation gives us more people up top, which helps spread (the defense) out a little bit,” he said. “It’s not just one or two up top where it’s easy to double DelCid and single the other guy. Now we have more people up top, which creates more trouble for the opposite team.”

Doubt we ever see those numbers again in Louisiana with the LHSAA implementing the new mercy rule for soccer.

Game is over if you go up by 8 goals.
(So crazy numbers may actually still be attainable, but I never liked seeing a coach run up a kid's stat-line when he should've already been subbed out anyway)

the level of soccer in the state just isn't good

i wouldn't even say its all b/c lack of talent, if one kid is banging in that many in 10 games the coaching must be awful.

That would probably get walked in other parts of the country.

But can't the private and catholic schools recruit but play vs public schools?

That for sure gives them a leg up

They can recruit, but don't...
Just so happens that Private schools have better programs for the most part.
Take that for what you will.

Most private schools in the area don't value soccer enough to risk shady recruiting.

Gotcha, in the dc area they are always around travel games and big tournaments bc they know most of the parents who are already pay for playing can afford the tuition.

Yea in Louisiana it usually just kind of naturally occurs that if you play soccer you're probably going to a private school when you grow up.
And chances are, you knew which private highschool you were going to attend since you were in the 3rd grade (For the most part).

These sound like assumptions from someone who lives in a different country and is probably not watching a lot of LA high school soccer.

Pretty sure DelCid is on the U18 Black (the best) team at BRSC. Woodlawn is very lucky to have him. They will likely win D-II this year. St. Louis isn't in their way.

It's rare to have prolific goal scoring seasons now that the mercy rule is implemented. My teammate at St. Michael, Mitchell Williams scored 46 goals his senior year, and my freshman year Derek Rumney scored 57 goals for us. My senior year a kid from Beau Chene scored like 60 goals.

DelCid might challenge Jason Garey's record, but he has to keep up this pace to have any shot. That record will probably never be broken.

And yeah, the level of competition in LA high school soccer isn't great, but we've had some teams recently that can play with anyone nationally. St. Paul's team two years ago was incredible. And St. Louis Catholic was declared the best high school team in the country back when they had future Hermann Award winner Joseph Lapira. Late 2000s Jesuit was also really good with Patrick Mullins and other studs.
